Sounds to me like you post more or less the same topic over and over again.

Sure it's the same topic, but it is still a fun topic for those still rebelling against the upgrade. I'm a big Linux fan, and I'm starting to transition a few boxes to 2K (just in time for support to shut down, hah), but I still like 98SE, and I use it for anything that doesn't involve lots of file serving, internet work, or wireless. I can have a functioning OS plus most of my favorite utilities all in 500 MB, and I finally got the install pretty well automated. Perfect for when I need to setup a few boxes for the next LAN party. So yeah, I'm a fan, and I don't mind revisiting the topic every now and again. Obviously there are a few others who don't mind either. Hey, maybe there should just be a stickied "Why we love Win98SE ever so much" topic, then nobody has to worry about this repeat issue.

Yup! Windows 98/SE is still alive and well in 2005.

For the older PC's still running only 64 megs of 100mhz ram, it's the Nuts!

I'm still cleaning up the old 98 machines and making them run better than new.

All it takes is a little bit of time and effort. It ain't rocket science.

Happy Holidays everyone,

..Got a Tale?
well i built a system today out of bits i had lying around,

(DFI K6BV3+ 66 MB, K6-2 333 (5x66MHz makes these stable btw), 256MB PC100, Guillemot 16MB TNT2, ISA SB16, Realtek NIC, 2x10GB HDs (1 Maxtor, 1 IBM), sony DVD rom and FDD)

guess what OS is going on it, go on guess :P

(yes i have that smug feeling right now, the one you get when all the LEDs work correctly 1st time, and there's no beeps or (worse) smoke :D )

i like having an OS i can install on more than one machine at once . . . .

(yeah, yeah, i know, the licence etc :P )

Meh, I like posting about this topic. Windows 98, while it is getting pretty old, is still a good OS for old and new computers. I just rebuilt my desktop and stuck 98SE, and it for the most part runs perfectly. And I say for the most part, because I curse nVidia for making crappy nForce drivers.

I have been using Windows 98SE on my stand alone Pentium Pro 200 since 1997 for use on the net and it has been nothing but a pleasure.

Now that I got a usb 2.0 pci card (that didn't have drivers that require mmx, :realmad: ) my trusty Pentium Pro and Windows 98 SE look unstoppable for a few more years at least.

I would also like to mention I have never picked up a virus or worm with Windows 98SE, even when operating without a firewall. With a firewall less Windows 2000, I was attacked within minutes of going online!

Windows 98 SE forever!
