GREENBUD Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 hello all...i am making maps for bf1942 and would like to be able to have people (friends) get the maps off my other computer...i did it once from my nephew with downloading a file i needed and it worked great and i think it was an ftp address..could someone direct me in the correct direction for what i need to do this...thank you ...
Aaron Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 BulletProof FTP Server or Serv-U will do this. You could also go for the more simpler WWW File Share Pro, but limited in the features it offers (I don't think you will be able to throttle your bandwidth etc.)
gamehead200 Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 You can always setup a webserver instead with Apache!
rstryker Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 also if you have an ever changing ip you can use www.no-ip.com
Drewdatrip Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 also if you have an ever changing ip you can use www.no-ip.comI also reccomend grabing their little ip app, it helps alot if your ip changes frequently=Drew

GREENBUD Posted May 9, 2003 Author Posted May 9, 2003 thank you all !!!!!!! i tryed apache but at this point its more than i want to figure out right now..but if someone knows an easy way to explain it...i'm not a c++ programer..im kinda stupid with this computer talk and im still learning..and again to all THANK YOU.......
Aaron Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 Yeah Apache would be too much hassle for you to set up at this time, even if you only want to send files to some other people. Go with WWW File Share Pro for the less figuring out
GREENBUD Posted May 10, 2003 Author Posted May 10, 2003 ok it worked great..i used the fileshare pro but now my only problem is i have 3 comps and am running through a ipaq router and it tells me the router ip and no one can connect...but if i run straight off the modem it works great..ive opened the ports needed but the fileshare pro only recognizes the router ip 192.168.1.....anu ideas how to get around this...i can get to it from my other comps ( lan ) but dont want to have to unhook everything and reboot the modem to get it so my friends can DL off me...thanks again
MSNwar Posted May 10, 2003 Posted May 10, 2003 From the help section:If WWW File Share Pro can be installed behind a gateway router? Then the IP address is your-router's-IP address, not your computer's. You can still use it locally, but those people outside from internet may not access the share service. To let others visit your computer directly, your router must support DMZ and Virtual Server.* Virtual Server: Allows WWW, FTP and other Internet server services on the LAN to be accessible to Internet users. * DMZ:The DMZ (DeMilitarized Zone) host feature provides unrestricted 2-way communication between Internet servers and one specified local machine. If the computer's INTERNAL IP is 192.168.0.2, tell your router or gateway to set this address as the DMZ and set a virtual server to port 80 (suppose that you set port 80 for WWW File Share Pro) at this address, then people outside can access your files. But you cann't tell 192.168.0.2 to your friends directly because it is a LAN IP address. You should tell an internet IP address to your friends so they can access your files on the internet. To find the internet IP address, please visit:http://www.backupsoft.net/myip.php
.PsychoMerc. Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 On a side note, screw apache, use Abyss, its the equivalent of Apache except for dummies, its alot easier to install PHP support/mySQL/ASP.Visit their forum for information on how to install PHP Nuke, vBulletin, Invision Board, you name it, they've got it.Thats what I'm hosting my clan's site off of...yes I made the flash intro.. <--|Hp|Wulff, we play MoH:AA, if you want to join, register.
