Tentative changelog for beta 6 (to be released in a few weeks):

-rolled back msvcp60.dll to version 6.2.3104.0

-removed auupd.exe

-fixed npdsplay.dll copy issues

-Updated usp10.dll to 1.0422.3790.2706 (919136)

-Updated msvcrt.dll to version 6.1.0.9846 (837239)

-Updated scrrun.dll to version 5.6.0.8830 (906092)

-Updated vbscript.dll to version 5.6.0.8829 (903648)

-Updated triedit.dll to version 6.1.0.9240 (2003 sp1)

-Updated dhtmled.ocx to version 6.1.0.9241 (906216)

Can anyone confirm whether the updated file do/don't work under ME. I'm thinking that they do, but I'm not 100% positive. I know the following files have no dependiencies on 98SE:

usp10.dll

vbscript.dll

I plan on checking the rest when I get some free time.

Somebody sent me this bug report:

Computer P4 1.5 Willamette + WinME italian (very updated).

This happened with MSVCRT.DLL 6.1.9844.0 (extracted from MESP202B5V2.EXE not fully installed) and unofficial VB6SP6.exe installed:

FREERAM XP PRO (1.52) ha provocato un errore di protezione generale

nel modulo USER.EXE in 001f:00001de8.

Caused while I opened Context Menu\File Property...

I don't use english USER* 4.90.3001 Fix by Microsoft and the bug never happened before.

I also tested Office Filters~Converters (and last msvbvm* and msvcp*) but no problem in Word2000 SP3 updated, at present.

Now I use MSVCRT.dll and MSVCIRT.dll 6.0.9782.0 .

I have no idea why they would have that error. I am going to be including msvcrt.dll 6.1.9846.0 in the next Service Pack.

Here is the current changelog (still need to examine a couple of files):

Please note that the changelog is not final until I release the Service Pack, so if there any requests, I might be able to include them. If I get the new msvbvm60.dll before August 8, I'll include it in this release. If you get a link for me, could you please just send me an email with the link?

Also, I am going to be on vacation in a little over a week for a few days, so I will not be actively online (just when I snag an Internet Connection).

I do not have the problem with that either AND I am using WinME English. Mdgx, whoever sent that bug report will need to test the msvcirt.dll under "Computer P4 1.5 Willamette + WinME (english)", not italian WinME.

Thanks erpdude. I'll send you my local copy of spuninst.inf so you can do what you want to it.

actually it wasnt necessary to send it to me as I extracted the spuninst.inf from MESP 2.02 beta 5 V2 pack.

just needed to change "Copy.Qfe" to "Copy.TC" and added the [Copy.TC] section which mentions the html32.cnv, msconv97.dll, mswrd832.cnv & mswrd632.wpc files. I'll send the updated spuninst.inf file to you on Friday.

I might also make some changes to the spuninst.inf file of the 98se SP an send it to Gape since I found some problems with it and I can easily fix them.

What I think this issue could be is that they installed the SP (English) on Italian Windows, which frigged up their system.

Back to the msvbvm60.dll question, would anyone be able to send me version 6.0.97.89?

The general rule is that using English files on any "US" Windows 98/Me version cannot cause any other problem than displaying messages in different languages.

As it is stated in Windows 98 Resource Kit Appendix A - International Windows 98, the United States release version is available in English, German, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Dutch, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish, Finnish, Russian, Polish, Hungarian, Greek, Turkish, Czech, Slovak and Slovenian languages. The code portion of all executables is exactly the same, just the resources (text strings, menus and dialogues) are translated.

So installing of English SP on Italian Windows should be harmless - if you don't mind the English dialogues.

I think the new version of msvcrt.dll will fix the issue.

@all: I just requested the 899282 msvbvm60.dll 6.0.97.89 fix. If anyone has that file, could they send it to me please?

not sure. if you dont get it the first time, request it a second or third time and MS will give it to you.
