I am planning to install a fan at the back of my computer. Should it Intake or

Exhaust ? Thanks !

Definitly Exhaust, id also reccomend puting one in the front for fresh cool intake...

dont have intake fans at the back of the pc.. lots of dust etc gets round there. exaust!

As drew said, generaly you have a fan for fan in the machine. while not essential id recomend it. so if you have a fan blowing out the back have one blowing in from the front. otherwise you end up with whats known ad a negative pressure system, you can end up with "pockets" of dead air where theres no flow.

so at some point id add a fan to the font too to balance it out.

i run more fans blowing out of the back of my machine than in from the front, but my case has holes all down the sides, to help airflow. (Chieftec Scorpio server case)

so i dont have the negative pressure that most cases would have, as they generally have more restricted air flow.

The way I have found the best cooling is as followed...

2 80mm fans in front or 1 120 mm on front - intake

2 80mm on side or 120mm on side - intake

1 80 mm on top or 120mm on top <------120 is the best - exaust

2-4 80mm on back - exaust

Keeps my beast cool!

Thanks everone for your replies. I will install an EXHAUST fan in the rear of the computer. The front of the computer is all plastic, and there is no easy place to install a fan that would pull any air. This Pentium 4 computer 2.4 gig processor came without any fans except for the one on the power supply and the one on the processor. Since I am not into GAMING etc. (just surfing)I assume that just the additional back fan is sufficient. Both sides of the computer are vented. Thanks again, Mike
