breadandbubbles Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 i have DVD Shrink, due to my habit of backing up everyone one of my dvdsi dont want them scratched, and.,..they get scratched, so i make copies.but DL discs are way expensive, so i jsut shrink them. i dont care about quality.i was just wondering, does anyone know of any alternatives to DVDShrink? maybe a dvd copying with greater capabilities? its okay if it wont copy protected DVDs. and it doesnt have to be freeware.
Jose Sigafus Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 CloneDVD-2 will do your job. You can hand select what you want to eliminate or shrink.
Zxian Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 What's wrong with DVDShrink? It may not be in production, but that doesn't mean that its no good.
bledd Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 yeah, in dvd shrink, just select 'Reauthor' and only drag what you want...nero recode can do it too
breadandbubbles Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 hahaha. sorry fellas, i should have brought up WHY id want an alternative.i suppose the problem stems from the fact that its not longer "in production", yes.see, ive heard rumours that many newer DVD arent read by DVD Shrink. is it true?
trickytwista Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 yes i like dvdshrink..its spot on and theres alot ya can do with it.....

If ever I'm going to a friend's place to watch a movie, I'll bring a copy. I've never had problems with DVDShrink not reading any of my DVDs. My suggestion in general is that if it works, use it. When the day comes that you can't backup a DVD, then start looking for alternatives.

EchoNoise Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I use ShrinkTo5...http://www.shrinkto5.com/Works great, and its open-source too

Zxian Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 What's your process? Do you first save files to your HD? Or do you just make a back up right then and there?Just fire up DVDShrink and go. It's a fairly straightforward program that makes a copy of the disc. The source files are stored on the hard drive after that, but you can delete them if you want.
EchoNoise Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 DVDDecrypterhttp://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...d_decrypter.cfmDVD Decrypter only descrambles certain CSS and VOB encryption methods that DVD Shrink can't do. It doesn't make 1:1 copies, if you know what I mean... I think it rips dvds aswell, but yeah
DigeratiPrime Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 (edited) DVD Decrypter to be removedhttp://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/7056.cfm24 November 2005 7:48 by dRDMacrovision Corporation recently acquired the intellectual property rights in all versions of DVD Decrypter from its author, Lightning UK!. As the current owner of the intellectual property rights in DVD Decrypter Macrovision has contacted us to inform that "any license granted by Lightning UK! to AfterDawn for the distribution of any version of the Software [DVD Decrypter]is hereby terminated with immediate effect."Even though the means used to acquire the rights to DVD Decrypter bore probably more resemblance to the common methods of the entertainment industry, we have no reason to object the request made by Macrovision. They do, in any case, own the rights to the software, and are entitled to enforce any policy they see fit.The DVD Decrypter install package will be removed from our servers by Sunday, November 27th, or as soon as it is technically possible. After it's development was ceased in June DVD Decrypter has been surpassed by several other software, such as AnyDVD and DVDFab Decrypter. One of the best features in DVD Decrypter was it's image burning engine, which allowed the burned disc to be verified against the image file. Luckily that feature is now available in Lightning UK!'s new software, ImgBurn.use one of these links instead http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DVD_Decrypter.htmhttp://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_D...er/1011845169/1http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Vi...Decrypter.shtml Edited November 25, 2005 by DigeratiPrime
