DVD Shrink

i have DVD Shrink, due to my habit of backing up everyone one of my dvds

i dont want them scratched, and.,..they get scratched, so i make copies.

but DL discs are way expensive, so i jsut shrink them. i dont care about quality.

i was just wondering, does anyone know of any alternatives to DVDShrink? maybe a dvd copying with greater capabilities? its okay if it wont copy protected DVDs. and it doesnt have to be freeware.

CloneDVD-2 will do your job. You can hand select what you want to eliminate or shrink.

What's wrong with DVDShrink? It may not be in production, but that doesn't mean that its no good.

yeah, in dvd shrink, just select 'Reauthor' and only drag what you want...

nero recode can do it too

i suppose the problem stems from the fact that its not longer "in production", yes.

see, ive heard rumours that many newer DVD arent read by DVD Shrink.

is it true?

I'm somewhat like you, in that my DVDs never leave my house. If ever I'm going to a friend's place to watch a movie, I'll bring a copy. I've never had problems with DVDShrink not reading any of my DVDs.

My suggestion in general is that if it works, use it. When the day comes that you can't backup a DVD, then start looking for alternatives.

Just fire up DVDShrink and go. It's a fairly straightforward program that makes a copy of the disc. The source files are stored on the hard drive after that, but you can delete them if you want.

DVD Decrypter only descrambles certain CSS and VOB encryption methods that DVD Shrink can't do. It doesn't make 1:1 copies, if you know what I mean... I think it rips dvds aswell, but yeah

Macrovision Corporation recently acquired the intellectual property rights in all versions of DVD Decrypter from its author, Lightning UK!. As the current owner of the intellectual property rights in DVD Decrypter Macrovision has contacted us to inform that "any license granted by Lightning UK! to AfterDawn for the distribution of any version of the Software [DVD Decrypter]is hereby terminated with immediate effect."

Even though the means used to acquire the rights to DVD Decrypter bore probably more resemblance to the common methods of the entertainment industry, we have no reason to object the request made by Macrovision. They do, in any case, own the rights to the software, and are entitled to enforce any policy they see fit.

The DVD Decrypter install package will be removed from our servers by Sunday, November 27th, or as soon as it is technically possible.

After it's development was ceased in June DVD Decrypter has been surpassed by several other software, such as AnyDVD and DVDFab Decrypter. One of the best features in DVD Decrypter was it's image burning engine, which allowed the burned disc to be verified against the image file. Luckily that feature is now available in Lightning UK!'s new software, ImgBurn.
