Does anybody know which files are missing

to run explorer.exe and shell32.dll from 98SE on

the same system configured by Mindows!?

By default there are explorer.exe and shell32.dll from Win95

and when replace these files I always got error!BangHead.gif

comdlg32.dll is also needed, Liteshell will runwith these three files as win98. I think there needs to be a couple of the i.e core and registry entries added also if you would like 98`s explorer.exe as the shell. I use Liteshell so never pursued it any further.

Thanx oscardog!

LiteShell is very good solution.

No problem, happy to help

Traymodule http://am-productions.biz/getprod.php?pcode=TrayModule is handy for use with Liteshell and I also used shellon which enables crash protection and easy shell selection on startup etc when I embedded a win98 usb bluetooth system a while ago.

I hope in the future to sort the 98 explorer issue out, so it is available to those who might want it.(When I get some free time). Would be nice for mindows and really increase its useability.

All the best

Thanx oscardog!

I didn't know anything about liteshell,shellon,and traymodule before.

Yea everything seems to be very tinny and this is really cool!!!

But I need to know how to add support for explorer.exe & shell32.dll from original 98SE.

I would like to try install all patches for 98se on Mindows and explorer.exe ver. 4.72.3110.1 is necessary

for that.

I don't know how to install my sound card driver into Mindows OS. :(

I have Crystal SoundFusion with WDM driver interface.If anybody know anything

please to post....thx...

...and...

...how to add DirectX9c support in Mindows!?

@nicke85

Sorry, but you seem to miss the point in making mindows, if you re-add:

Win 98 Explorer

Win 98 Shell32.dll

you will need to re-add also ALL related files and the IE integration.

If you also re-add sound support and Direct-X, you will most probably end up with a freshly installed Windows 98. :w00t:

If all you want to do is to make a FULL Windows 98 on CD, you can try using this approach, in which Windows is installed and configured normally and once everithing is correct, "transferred" to CD:

http://www.geocities.com/freedatarecovery/

though the article refers to Windows 95, the same can be replicated with Windows 98.

Hello ,

I really think Mindows a great project, As LLXX says it is a building block to do whatever you want with.

Just add your imagination .

But I have some questions :

-For the W95 files : you have to copy this files

* explorer.exe

* comdlg32.dll

* shell32.dll

* notepad.exe

but , another share , I find this list : shell32.dll ; sysdm.cpl ;browseui.dll ; explorer.exe ; browselc.dll

So ,what's the good list ? and why there's NODEPAD.exe ??

-What Is it the .INF to copy on my W98 CD , to install after cleaning a MINDOWS ? In fact, which is necessary to choose in "NANO98","WINIMIZE",and in "PCSS.exe" ?

--The last : more for MDGx, why this topic "The Mindows Project, A Minimalist Installation of Windows 98" is not found in the subforum Unofficial Win98 SE Service Pack, as for " Windows 98 3rd edition?, "Project Bankai""" elsewhere ????

Thanks , :thumbup

Some (not all) answers:

The files really needed are these three:

* explorer.exe

* comdlg32.dll

* shell32.dll

With some versions, cannot say WHICH ones, my Italian one as an example, NOTEPAD.EXE from win 98 will not work with the above Win95 files.

So you need an alternative txt editor, not necessarily NOTEPAD.EXE from Win95, there are hundreds of them, it's a matter of preferences.

What I remember using was Edxor:

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nulifetv/fr...eware/edxor.htm

which is very compact and has some features I use.

Mindows rulz! never made a complete installation within 10 minutes. :thumbup

but some questions showed up.

I "patched" the serial key screen by extracting setupx.dll (aka M$ internal install). but I don't know how it works.

does windows assume that every file that is outside the .cab-files is newer than the one inside?

is there still a check for file integrity?

if not could one "inject" WinME files? service packs?

my graphics and sound need directx 8.0 or later is there to integrate it?

i read this post by lleoliveira but don't know which files should be used in v8.0.

I would like to either hack the explorer.exe or use another prog.

could one of you recommend one?

thanks a lot for this.

@Admin

i think this project is worth a sub-forum. it'd very kind of you to create one. thx.

@ jaclaz

Sounds cool. so I can use Notepad2 instead of notepad from win95 (after renaming of course)?

Yes, unless it uses some .DLL functions not present in the Win95 version of

* comdlg32.dll

* shell32.dll

FYI, a section of the forum at bootland is now dedicated to mindows:

http://www.boot-land.net/forums/Winimize-f53.html

where maybe you can ask for questions not answered here.

The developer "winimizer" posts there too, from time to time.

@ smashly

How did u patch ur explorer.exe? (I'd like it to display my Mindows logo. I modified the one from TClock.)

Is there a way to change the default "View" and behaviour of explorer.exe? And if so, how is it done?

I know this is a 3 yr old thread but I was playing around with Mindows and I really like it.

The thing is I use certain programs that requires the Win98SE Shell32.dll/Explorer.exe etc.....

Has anybody figured this out yet. I've sent the Mindows creator an email. I'm still waiting on a response.
