Ever once in a while...and after numerous clean installs (no nlite, using vl disk from ms) after i eject a cd or a dvd i will go back to "my computer" and it will still show up as if it is still in the drive. the icon and the name ect is still there...i'll refresh (f5), eject the drive ect....yet it still shows up as if there is a data/music disc in there, i don't mean where i can browse the disk drive and look at its content, just where it shows up in "My Computer"...course after a while it goes away....just a little annoying.

so has anyone else experienced this?

and if so...

how to fix...

thanks....

I know exactly what you mean but I don't have an exact answer ...

maybe it has sth to do with the service "shell hardware detection" ...

been having this problem for years, for me i install fresh and for the first few months alls fine then one day bang i get the image icon and name for whatever disk i last had inserted in the drive showing up all the time, unless i do a restart with no disk in the drive then it's blank until i put another disk in, Haven't worried about it too much to look for a fix but if someone had the answer i'd be happy none the less! ;-)

What causes it is that you have disabled the fast refresh and the auto-run features under Windows, it sounds crazy but that is the cause of it... lol

so...disabling autorun causes this?

yeap.

i always notice it after i install VMWare cause VMWare hates the autorun feature.. but just reenable auto-run and it should go back to normal.

is this really causing you a problem though?

not a problem..just annoying...

in the autoplay tab of my cd/dvd rom drive i choose "take no action" for

music files,pictures,video files,mixed content, ect.....

i'll see if that fixes it...
