gamehead200 Posted February 16, 2003 Posted February 16, 2003 Is there a way to make Windows XP use less RAM? Everytime I check Coolmon, it says I'm always using over 100 MB of RAM...How can I reduce this? Use less programs?
speedz Posted February 16, 2003 Posted February 16, 2003 Remove stuff from startup folder, set skin to windows classic, remove stuff from tray.
gamehead200 Posted February 17, 2003 Author Posted February 17, 2003 The only spyware I probably have on my computer is from KaZaA, even though its the Lite version...
Drewdatrip Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 Try to disable the internal Windows Services that you dont use....only disable the ones you know, and for the rest research them..=Drew
exchange Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 in the sytem properties--> advanced-->performace-->settings there are some visual effects for the os that can be turned off.
Davey Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Download this guide i made, shows you how to speed up XP, how to free up and disable some services you dont need(frees up ram) and also how to improve the overall performance of XP.Download HEREAlso, go to Start Button, Run and type in msconfig and disable any services running upon boot up. Also go to these registry entries to stop servies from loading also.HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunSome programs also allow to disable upon start up. Disable some of em also if you have any. ONly thing you need really is the AV scanner running upon boot.Anyway, hope this helps. EDIT.Post has been edited
ThA_FiLeR Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 100MB should be about right, even M$ says that the minimum RAM required is 128MB, and I ran it before on 64MB and it was very slow, I think it was using the pagefile mostly...
gamehead200 Posted February 23, 2003 Author Posted February 23, 2003 So what are the most important things that should run when I boot up the computer?
