why access is denied ?

i'm sharing ADSL (router and a switch) with a friend in the same building

we are connected to the switch

i can see him in Network places but when i try to open his computer

it says access is denied, but he can access me !!

he had no passwords on his machine.

we had disabled authentication and firewall but no way ?

each of us have a different workgroup name

Sounds like a permissions issue. Make sure that he computer has Simple File Sharing enabled then unshare and reshare the folder you're trying to access on his computer.

Maybe you can try with an administrative share: \\Machinename\C$ or \\IPadress\C$

it keeps on telling me network path not found while he is online then access denied

he has now shared folders???

ok go to run and type cmd

then type ipconfig /all to get the ips of the computers

then instead of writing the name of the computer write

\\ip_number_here\

then it should work, also in that command screen try to ping the other computer

if all fails the service might be stopped.

then to go run and type services.msc and start the computer browser and other stuff...

i have a clean install of xp pro and all default services are ok

he is sharing a folder

he can access me, but i can not access him !!

also, i want to ask about how to send a file via LAN not Internet ?

is there a program for that ?

Make sure simple file sharing is enabled on HIS machine. Then unshare everything and re-share it.

i'd tried everything unsharing and resharing, make the same workgroup,

....... but no way till now.

i had found something: i have a program called net brute, i checked with it on my friend ip address, it can not get it but get it as a port address !

is this mean anything ?
