Recomposition of Windows 95/98/98SE/ME

Advantages:

- USB 2.0/USB Storage Support

- ca. 95% of apps working

- Customizeable driversets via editing DRVR???.INF

files

- Most of Kernel Code has been tampered with

to decrease interdependency of function calls

(mainly 16-bit ThunkJunk Codewoods!)

- Basic installation with even less than 30 MB

possible

- DirectX support as installable/removeable component

- VMM Core is uncombined - thus it is possible to

exchange/replace KMode Drivers such as VPICD.VXD etc.

...

Drawbacks:

- ca. 5% of apps not working

- SHELL32.DLL ver 4.00 with only very few APIS

needed to run without IE4/5/6

- For now only German version

- Due to reduction of INF files some installers/driver setups

will not work/function properly.

- For some unknown reason, "optimized" KERNEL32.DLL will cause GPF

at Explorer startup

- DSL+RAS using NDISWAN malfunctional

...

This version is NOT licensed, distributed nor

supported by Microsoft.

Very interesting, although i'm not German.

Strange that I still can see topic and links

UPD: Really, really very interesting and hard work, at least on 9x distro. I've never seen such quality before.

Total Commander internal unpacker is OK, I suppose any zip unpacker will be able to handle it.

I took a look and it looks weird - files from MS-DOS 6.22, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 95 OSR2.5, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP..... probably hard work but I don't see the reason why to do it.

And of course, Gape should close this thread.

In this thread about where to find Win98 SE, two supermoderators have immediately agressively interfered and one of them has closed it soon afterwards without real reason but invoking "piracy" when there was absolutely nothing wrong in it. The poor man who created the thread just wanted to know if anyone knew if there were places where he could find 98SE for a decent price and said he didn't want to hear answers from any XP salesman (You will remember that the top topic at that time was Unforgiven's very long thread about XP versus 98 that was very much about bashing 98 users and trying to convince them to upgrade to XP).

Here there is a package that is posted since more than a day for anyone to download and that obviously contains scores of pirated non freely-redistributable MS files that furthermore claims to be an entire micro MS OS with setup if I understand well. And no one that has authority does anything about it.

So what the f*** is going on ?
