In Control Panel/User Accounts, there is only 1 account - a Limited account. Of course I can change/remove the password, Change my picture, Change my .net password. Related tasks are: Manage my network passwords and Prevent a forgotten password. Again, of course I can’t change my account name or type, I am told to ask an Administrator - - - - - I used to have an Administrator account and it was listed in the window Control Panel/User Accounts - I have no idea how it vanished. This is MY computer. I have registered these operating systems since windows 3.1.

I have SP-2. In my research about this problem it seems like I read something about a weakness turning part of the SP-2 into a villain. ? No matter, I bet. Maybe it was just that my computer is it's own administrator somehow. ??? I know there are no "somehow" ’s, but there is no Administrator listed in User Accounts! However, if this IS true, the computer will let any well designed Trojan right through the front door. After I recognized the obvious, I started in Safe Mode enough times to know I need help to know what to do next because I could not figure out how to get anything accomplished.

I have worked more than 2 weeks on and off shooting at this turkey! I am not usually this bad a shot, but this turkey is remarkably elusive. Ya get ‘em like that sometimes. Worked for a long time in Help. I tried My Windows XP Forum. I called MSN for help. She told me where to http:// for help. I studied in and arount that site, and found this forum. I am still stymied! It would be nice if someone has a clue. I am really tired of slogging through this mud.

Thank you in advance, David37854!

Have you tryed looking for your account under the computer management console....

If you have pro edition it is easily accesible, if you have home... it is there i just don't know where...

Assuming you have XP Pro, at the logon screen, type:

Ctrl+Alt+Del

to launch the classic logon box, from where you can logon as the Admin.

If you can't then it's been disabled.

The Administrator account can't be disabled. If it could, it'd be possible to lock yourself out completely.

Do as Takeshi suggests, press ctrl-alt-del twice at the welcome screen & enter Administrator as the user name & hope there isn't a password.

@David37854 - If you still have the problem I'd suggest either try Winternals Erd Commander which would let you boot and create a new admin acc. or if everything else fails - do the obvious - reformat and make a clean install :(

If this is XP home.. the administrator account should not appear where he is stating. It should still show up under computer management though

Computer management/ Local users and groups is only available under XP Pro, not home, safe mode is the only other way you can access it in Home
