the only way i know at the moment is to send them to a wabpage that logs ips... like, make a site that has all sorts of fun stuff, and add and ip logging script. i know the ip, browser, and operation system of every single person that has visited my website

Anyway, I'm with KAndle on this one, just ask them. If they themselves don't know, you can always refer them to the wonderful website http://whatismyip.com. As the name suggests, this is a site that displays your public IP address. I have found this site to be infinitely useful for exactly that purpose.
