FthrJACK
same modem as me, no doubt similar setup.this is on windows XP right? This sounds daft but have you tried the modem with the USB cable and see if that works? i know its a bit less reliable but if it works for now it works...before trying that, go to command console. type:ipconfig /flushdnsthen do:ipconfig /releaseturn your modem off, at the mains socket (or take the plug out of the back) standby will NOT work.reboot the pc. ok when the modem has been turned off for about 2 minutes reboot the pc. Then plug modem back in.ok now back at the command console do:ipconfig /registerdnsthen do:ipconfig /renewAny luck with that? other things to try as well as the above... check Nic drivers, uninstall Nic and reinstall it, check for driver updates for Nic at manufacturers site, turn XP firewall off,Try another Nic. FthrJACK
cannot find file?? what the hell, sound like your modems missing its config file.you did wait till the modem settled down before doing register dns?Have you tired it using USB cable?its one of two things, your modem is missing its config file, but as they got it working with a laptop i doubt it.try another nic, if you dont have one use usb till you can get one/borrow one.updated drivers?uninstalled it then reinstalled it?do:ipconfig /all and post result here, just out of curio
lynchknot
What's a "nic"?ATT spent 2 hrs. here trying to get it to pull an IP. They think it's an app. preventing it. They suggested to re-install my OS.
FthrJACK
NIC = network interface card.turn XP firewall off.do you have zonealarm installed? if so uninstall it, stupid true vector wants stabbing with a rusty broken saw blade, caused me many problems such as this.also, go to http://192.168.100.1/config.htmlits your modems config page. do you see any mention of a config file in there?you might find this page usefull:http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.wal.../surfboard.html

zipp51
Hey Lynchnot,I know the feeling of frustration.Just a stab, but if it is an app as they say,try running msconfig and with selective startup selected and unselect anything that you know is web related.IE ,MSN,p2p,antivirus,firewall.Also go to your administrative tools, local security policies and IP security policies on local computer.Look at your secure server and server settings(double click on them)then do the same for All IP and All ICMP traffic and see if under 'connections' that 'all connections'is selected. If they are telling you to reinstall your OS then a config file is missing which an app might have ditched.Try putting your XP cd in and run scannow /sfc,before doing any formating.
