matrix0978 Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Ok, well i have linksys router, and it restarts like every half in hour. I not sure. I upgraded firmware and everything. But about every 30 mins, everything has to reconnect like AIM, or GameSpy. Any suggestions on how to fix?
oofki Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Well mine just stops working after a while and I dont know why it does it. Is it wired or wireless?
gamehead200 Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 How is it set on the main page at the bottom:http://imagehost.astromike.com/uploaded/li...s-keepalive.jpgIt should be set to KEEP ALIVE and NOT connect on demand so it stays connected all the time...
matrix0978 Posted January 13, 2005 Author Posted January 13, 2005 oofki its wired. And thanks gamehead i got it. it was on Connect of Demand.

matrix0978 Posted January 14, 2005 Author Posted January 14, 2005 It just shuts down the whole internet. And wont work. Any ideas?Anyone?
epic Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 What model of Linksys? What type of service do you subscribe to DSL/Cable/Dialup/ISDN?
epic Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Get a photoshot of your cable modem signals or copy and paste them here. TX (Transmit) RX (Receive)type: 192.168.100.1 in your browser to bring up the cable modem interface. However, it could quite possibly be the firmware of that router. BEFSX41 & BEFSR41 have had problems with the last 2 versions of firmware. There is a fix in a unreleased copy, but I need to look for that.
Astalavista Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 u hv an antique router. that was the first one i got years ago.why not bump up to a 2.4 Ghz router?Try this RESET the router...power off the router, plugin the poweruse a pen to push the reset button at the back for 40 seconds router will then reset to default factory settingsmake sure that your cable modem or dsl is not connected to the router.using firefox or internet explorerthe correct ip address for the router is 192.168.1.1 password is adminchange 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.50click save, plugin your cable modem or dslgo back to 192.168.1.50select ppoe and enter your username and passwordclick savetry it
lvlolvlo Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Ok...firstoff the solution Gamehead offered is for PPOE connections. If you don't have a PPOE connection it kinda won't work for you and will leave you w/out i-net. lol.matrix0978 - What version firmware do you have?About 85% of the time peoples problems are solved by unplugging everything waiting a minute then plug in your DSL/Cable Modem wait for it to connect with all lights then plug in your router wait for it to come up all the way then start up your computer.10% configuration5% defective unitthat's my personal experience.I would try upgrading to a new(updated) firmware version and resetting all the options back to factory defaults.I personally have the Sveasoft firmware for my routers which provide me with i-net and the other router provides free wifi for anyone that can catch the signal.here's some images if you think you might be interested of what the added features of the sveasoft firmware adds.http://tinyurl.com/5avbg
epic Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 lvlolvlo- that firmware is only for Broadcom based routers. The BEFSR41 is nearly 4years old and is not equiped with a Broadcom chip. It will kill the flashrom .firmware version 1.50.9 was never released but fixed major flaws with both BEFSR41 & BEFSX41 with traceroute and ping killing the router along with adding unexplained reboots . Firmware version 1.45.7 has been the most stable version for both of these routers. I would give that a shot and see what happens. However, reseting the modem like Astalavista noted may do the trick. Let it sit for about 3-5minutes with no power after you set the reset pin in. If not try the 1.45.7 firmware and see what happens.
Astalavista Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 99% of dsl and cable modem companies deploy ppoe I agree get a new 2.4 Ghz router so cheap. it like 74 dollars here.the wireless cards are like 20 dollars
