LS_Dragons Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 Try this applet at Univ. of Colorado. Start with mouse on 'Earth' - hold the mouse button down and as you move away from earth release themouse button. A white 'satelite' will fly out. How many tries until you get a stable orbit? I got one into orbit on about 15th try - but it is a funky looking orbit. Still going though after 20 minutes. Pretty cool....http://www.colorado.edu/physics/2000/apple...satellites.htmlLS_Dragons
Drewdatrip Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 What a fun little app! i got some really interesting orbits going on!Fun stuff =Drew
Drewdatrip Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 ohh crap, i think im addicted to the **** satelite game.... =Drew
FthrJACK Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 pretty cool, but you just click anywhere you want to "rop" a satelite, no need to drag, just click anywhere on the square. you can influence the sateleite too, by "pushing" it with the mouse to give it velocity when you release it, so kinda move the mouse a tiny bit and click to release one that wont just fly into the earth heh sweet i have a few going in orbit now, ones almost a perfect circle, most are eliptical though. the moon has an affect on them too doesent it... pesky moonmy best are about 2cm from the earth in a cirular orbit, the distance from the earth gets a bit close for my liking because of the moon on any that are closer to the earth.
FthrJACK Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 this is harder... on that same game give the moon a sattelite of its own. it very hard, but possible i did it after much trying, they only seem to last for a few minutes ...

Yea i tryed for the same thing..couldent get it to orbit the moon for more then about 10 rotations...i dont think its actually possiable..but who knows.. =Drew
Reverend Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 Get as close as you can to the right or left hand side of the Earth with your cursor, then hold the left button down and flick the mouse up at the same time releasing the button.I've got mine orbiting about 2mm from the Earth. Follow the moon with your cursor and use the same technique to orbit the moon
Crispy Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 D'OH ... I just used 30 min on that silly game ... Quite fun actually
MSNwar Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 Are you all out of work? Heard that the earth rotates at 100,000 MPH?chit, this is almost as good as donkey kong.
