Partitioning like in unattended.sourceforge.net

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

im just reading the Unattended Guide at Sourceforge. I don´t know if this works and i want to know if somebody ever tried these commands in winnt.sif.

[_meta]
   fdisk_lba=1
   fdisk_cmds="fdisk /clear 1;fdisk /pri:4000;fdisk /activate:1"
   fdisk_confirm=0
   format_cmd="format /y /z:seriously /q /u /a /v: c:"
   replace_mbr=1

Do you have some experiences with this way partitioning the disk!?

I have to try that tonight, and post any results i get...

I doubt it will work, because they have some perl script which reads these extra sections. I know I'm happy with just chosing my partitioning manually, or using bartpe+dispart scripts.

The perl script needs all this:

If you would like to give Unattended a try, you can start right now. First, visit the download page to download the distribution. Each release has three components: The main distribution (unattended-version.tar.gz), the traditional DOS boot disk images (unattended-version-dosboot.tar.gz), and the new-fangled Linux boot disk images (unattended-version-linuxboot.tar.gz). Download the main distribution plus one or both of the boot disk archives.

Extract all archives to the same folder. If you have a Unix machine with the right tools, you can rebuild the disk images from the main distribution; but for now, you should probably just download everything you need.

So [_meta] is a section which that perl script gives, and not natively part of windows setup. More complication!

But gotta admit, they have the right idea:

The two basic principles of Windows system administration:
  • For minor problems, reboot
  • For major problems, reinstall

chosing my partitioning manually

Thats the way i´m doing it too. But if you have an option on winnt.sif, it will be good to know. But i think theres a way doing that, somebody would know it in this forum...

So we have to wait....
