Jono
i am currently undecided between a 2600+ Mobile Chip and a 2800+ Desktop chip which would overclock better?
Famer
the mobile might be a better overclock as it runs cooler. if im wrong im sure someone who has used a mobile chip in his desktop will be able to tell you.
prathapml
Famer, true. All indications point towards that direction. You did put it in the best words possible.Well, I was actually typing the same thing, but you were minutes faster! So I ended up with just an "agree" post. Famer
Thanks prath. I just found out that you could run a mobile based cpu in a desktop board. i would have thought that cpus for laptops would be built a little diffrent. but it seems there not much diffrence. XtremeMaC
that's wierdi've mobile cpu on my laptop and runs little slow and heats up since its in the laptop powered with small fans. but i'm sure it either lacks the cache or number of transistors or something?? CoffeeFiend
Both have same socket/pin layout. Overcloking wise (not that I bother with it or care about it) it also depends on the processor's stepping (and not all motherboards are as good for the job either). If you go mobile, get a I stepping instead of a A stepping.
rupert86
Mobile's best if buying to overclock. Anyway the 2800+ is faster by stock, so why not get it?
Jono
because the stock speed doesnt mean much to me, weird you say but if i can overclock the 2800+ to 2.4ghz stable yet i could overclock a mobile 2600+ to 2.7ghz then what is the point in stock speed to me it is just a sticker on the box similar to the overclocking voids warrenty one.whatever chip i get will be overclocked to the maximum.
