Will sp1 mess up and COPY of an oem install ?

Featured Replies

A friend of mine LOL .... installed a copy of windows XP from a oem cd... and wants to know if SP1 will work or not on his computer, and he's copy IS activated, it was done over the net... would this mess up Xp if he downloaded and installed it ?

it probably wouldn't mess anything up...

BUT!

i'd wait til the official SP comes out on the 9th

Woooooh, you have to have the original CD KEY to install SP1?! Im buggered if you do... No im not... I got some keys lying around somewhere, lol.

OEM installs will be fine - but as Sedative says, wait for official release. The SP1 is only going to check for the 2 or 3 volume keys that have been leaked - those will no longer work. OEM installs are not using those keys.
