@argon007: If you read this thread and a few others on this board you'll see that most of us agree that VMware is the best vm out there. So if you want a good virtual environment buy VMware.

@HeartsOfWar

You might like to check out WineX 3.1, Codeweaver's wine, and Crossover Office (with regard to your previous post about linux). Google for more details! :D

@MCT

sorry, but actually the same logic works the other way round, (whatever good windows has, linux has it too) here. Which is a sad thing because, OpenOffice then becomes an un-innovative copier of MS-Office - whereas it could have been vastly different and better. Anyway, this is not the place to talk about linux, let's get back on topic. :)

Why VMware is better then Virtual PC? Well if Microsoft can't get WINDOWS right, then how the hell can they get a VIRTUAL copy of windows right...

IMO, ms is doing good, if they sucked THAT bad, as some ppl think, why are they a HUGE corporation, sure isnt cuz they are cheap :lol:

Well, for one thing, Virtual PC is not Microsoft's more then Defrag or Backup is.

Product has been developed from CONNECTIX for some years.

However, Micro$oft has got the money, so that they just buy the good software already made by someone who is willing to sell it.

From the above, you could get the inferation that anything NOT bought by Micro$oft is either:

1) NOT good software

2) made by someone who is NOT willing to sell it

I, myself am more a VMWARE fun, as I find it a bit faster, and as it (Version 3.x) does run on my EPIA motherboard.(Version 4 and Virtual PC NEED PENTIUM!).

By the way, have you seen these really nifty tools:

VMware's back

Virtual Disk Driver Version 3

This is a Virtual Disk Driver (VDK) Version 3 for Windows NT / 2000 / XP.

I've got some reports that it also works on Windows 2003 Server.

With VDK you can mount a VMware virtual disk to your Windows hosts and use them as another disk drive attached to your system.

VMware's back

Virtual Floppy Driver

This is a virtual floppy disk driver for Windows NT / 2000 / XP.

You can mount a floppy image file as a virtual floppy drive and directly access the contents -- view, edit, rename, delete or create files, format the virtual floppy, launch a program on the virtual floppy... whatever.

I find both of them, though not perfect yet, a must have!

Virtual PC is faster than vmware when installing windows XP and windows 2000 virtual machines.

I have been using vmware in my environment for the past 3 years. I prefer the new microsoft Virtual PC 2004. Both are very good however, but virtual pc has much better keyboard shortcut support (this is the worst problem with VMWare)

I have seen the past post, I would like to ask the question..Most people who are here agree VMWare is better than Virtual PC, but some people think Virtual PC is faster than VMWare when you install Windows on Virtual PC and VMWare..I need to know why.
