Registry Tweaks, Part-1

Recommended Posts

Quick question; I've read all 50 pages of this topic, but so far I haven't seen a key to set the display mode (resolution and color depth). Of course I googled it to no avail, just wondering if anybody has stumbled across this.

Thanks,

~xiphias

Go back and re-read the guide.

REGISTRY

Also, the registry list....

Registry Guide

And I'll give you my reg tweak file, which has many of your desired tweaks, and much more.

Just save it as regTweaks.reg, and in cmdlines.txt, insert the line:

"REGEDIT /S regtweaks.reg"

Thanks for the reply.

I have read the guide over and over and over again.

I have gone boggle eyed trying to figure this out, I am not an id***. I have been trying for weeks doing this myself and finaly in desparation have put up a post.

The problem is:

In your reg tweaks file (thanks for attaching) under visual effects

you have each of the values set to 1 ie.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ComboBoxAnimation]

"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001

I have tried setting all of these to dword:00000000 (to untick the box)

as by having it as dword:00000001 this turns the value on?

Is there something else I am doing wrong

I will attach the reg tweak file which I have been using (its only short)

thanks for the help

My values have it set to off. What i suggest you do then is to turn it on, then go into the registry, and see how it is displayed. I'm on my way out the door, so I can't check myself.

@dkreifus

Downloaded your tweak file thanks.

Copied out your visual settings section and poasted into my regtweak.reg file.

Put the regtweak.reg file into $OEM$ folder with cmdlines.txt file

Edited cmdlines.txt to contain the following

[Commands]

"REGEDIT /S regtweak.reg"

burnt cd and tested.

the slipstream worked fine and it installed winzip and acrobat etc during setup but didn't seem to run the regtweak file (no desktop icons etc)

navigated to the reg file and double clicked, desktop icons imediatly showed up and the start menu tweaks had worked but....

The visual effects were all turned on still (this section copied from yours)

:)

any ideas why either the visual effects didn't turn off

or

why the reg file was not applied at T-12

or

Both :rolleyes:

Any help would be great

do a search for vidchng1365, its a great commandline tool for setting resolution, refresh rate and colour depth in one command, only about 50kb or so im sure.

I am very close to what I consider to be my perfect Unattended CD. I have every application that I need to have installed on my DVD and it functions beautifully.

I have a few preferences that should be able to be set up through my .reg file but I can't seem to find them here (I will admit that I haven't searched all 50 pages of this thread).

Here are the settings I would like.

1) "Turn on" Quick Launch bar

2) Explorer - "Uncheck" the Hide Extensions for Known Files

3) Internet Explorer - Turn off AutoComplete totally (it is off for webforms but I would like to turn it "off" for Usernames and passwords on forms and Prompt me to save passwords.

Thanks in advance.

It turns out that I have that line in my .reg file. However, it didn't work for me. Should the dword be 1?

To stop it from hiding the extensions for known file types it should be set as the code is displayed above & to 'Hide the extensions would be a 1 at the end of the 'dword'

Hide the extensions for known file types

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"HideFileExt"=dword:00000001

You can see the change in Regedit (no need for logging off & on) just shut Regedit and reopen it after applying the tweak in 'Folder options'.

Actually, it did work with the dword of "0". I was looking at the wrong setting... :)

I have just a few more registry tweaks that I am looking for.

Here they are...

Explorer - Display Full Path in title bar (I want this turned ON by default)

Disable Error Reporting (not the service, as I have that entry). I have seen some settings to Disable Error Reporting with notifications of critical errors turned on. I want this turned OFF.

Internet Exploere - Autocomplete with ALL options off. I have a setting now that still uses autocomplete to store and suggest passwords. I want this turned totally OFF.

I seen a few claiming to be ultimate tweak files but they havent got simple ones like set the ie homepage.

Why dont we all keep to one standard and agree and make a all time ultimate reg file we all use with every single tweak going and then comment out what we dont want for ourselves. I've seen three registry tweaks to do the same thing but only one works.

We apply this ultimate reg file as a Sticky Thread for all to see and any tweaks that want to be added to it have to be tested and approved so we know there working. It takes several seconds to test a reg file and to know if its working or not.

AND

Someone writes a program with a database of tweaks that can be added to and so no duplicate tweaks can be added. If this is moderated before you know it we have a big working tested database of tweaks. In the program you select the tweaks you would like and then it exports your chosen tweaks to a reg file for you.

We need to get our heads together and do this. Count me in.

Edit .nfo files with notepad

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nfo]

@="txtfile"

"PerceivedType"="text"

"Content Type"="text/plain"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nfo\PersistentHandler]

@="{5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nfo\ShellNew]

"NullFile"=""

Whats the point of compiling if they dont work.
