Astalavista Posted June 22, 2004 Author Posted June 22, 2004 what is a P5c800-E is that a motherboard?
darph Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 right is a better boardwhy you should take two difference hd ??take two 120 gig and you can create a raid with them
Bâshrat the Sneaky Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 For what will you use it?(e.g. gaming, coding, ...)
Astalavista Posted June 22, 2004 Author Posted June 22, 2004 where can i find info on the board you are recommending.i can't find any reference on it anywhere on the web.i just want a nice computer. time for me to upgrade
XtremeMaC Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 go buy western digital raptor 10.000rpm! why not get a better graphics card?get a better mb that has firewire inside it.u could get a dvd writer from lite-on as well $100 difference
Drewdatrip Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 Asus P4C800C-E@XtremeMaC Yes the Raptors are nice but i have only noticed a increase in performance when the drives are put into a raid striping setup. The difference in the single drive setup is not very notable.A very good setup from what i have seen is 2x Wd160Sata drive in striping. You get performance and a decent amount of space for a good price.|Drew|
Astalavista Posted June 22, 2004 Author Posted June 22, 2004 motherboard with firewire? what brand and model please.video card = please give advice on a 128 MB video card with good performance.I already hv a 12X LiteOn. I did not include that on my list sorry.Asus P4C800C-E = yes, i have seen this board on a number of sites.will upgrade my choice to this.this raptor sounds interesting. I would like to hear other people's comments.how much is a 120 or 160 gig raptor?
XtremeMaC Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 how much is a 120 or 160 gig raptor?u'd be dreaming there is 37gb and 74gb versions of it..
gandalfgrey Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 why 128 mb video card? Not saying, that 128 mb is bad, but there's a general idea that amount of ram indicates performance. Guess what, it's not true.If you'd buy a tnt2 with 128 mb ram(not really exists), it would be wasted, because it can't _use_ it. IT could do 1600x1200, but tnt2 core would handle 2 fps at most. Same thing with Radeon 9200s with 256 mb ram.. what a waste.I suggest buying and 9800 non-pro/pro/xt.. depending on your budget, or 9600XT.I'd avoid nvidia FX line, because DX9 frankly sucks on them.also.. why prescott? it's hotter, slower, overclocks less(since you buy ASUS board, i'd expect you do some overclocking). Northwood based 2.8C or 3.0C are the way to go.
Astalavista Posted June 23, 2004 Author Posted June 23, 2004 oksince there isn't any 100 Plus gig RaptorI will just get a 160 GIG Seagate SATA (7200 RPM)and base on opinions i hv read. I will be getting the ATI 9800 Pro 128.Thanks for all your help.
Drewdatrip Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 also.. why prescott? it's hotter, slower, overclocks less(since you buy ASUS board, i'd expect you do some overclocking). Northwood based 2.8C or 3.0C are the way to go.They maybe hotter and not as good for overclocking...but they are denatly a better Cpu.1mb of cache is very helpful when it comes to hadcore number crunching, cpu intensive loads etc.I would go with the prescott|Drew|
gandalfgrey Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 AnandtechHardocpExtremetechNorthwood is faster most of the time. That + the fact that it's hotter etc. makes it inferior cpu.
