Hello

I am running Virtual PC trial, in order to test my Windows XP SP1 "simple" unattended CD. I say Simple, because i only used setupmgr.exe (in deploy.cab) in order to create the two files, winnt.sif and winnt.bat.

So the installation starts, it goes to "Installing devices"... and then, when this part is over, (about 34minutes remaining) it pops up the Product Key window (which is NOT supposed to happen)and it wants me to enter the key.

Any ideas??

What flavor of XP?

Home --> ProductID=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

Pro --> ProductKey=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

If an invalid key number is in your winnt.sif, it will display the Product Key dialog box during setup as well.

Its windows XP PRO

and my key is Valid!

run setup manager by downloading the deployment tools and recreate the winnt.sif, that will correct the problem

Ok thanks lets try that.. (but i doubt it, as i got the setup manager off my winxp SP1 pro CD .. so it must be the same file :-/)

So im assuming that you made a directory on your hdd and copied your Xp cd to it. Then you used the deploytools to make a new answer file. From there u named the file on completion to "Winnt.sif" Then droped that in the proper directory of the files u copied from the XP Cd.

Then from there u made a new iso.

If this is true then i would use the link to make sure your answer files is all proper. You can open the file with word pad and ediet directley.

And i also used CD Image pro to create the .iso file.

the file winnt.sif seems to be correct.

Then post your winnt.sif file, minus your product key. And before anyone assumes anything, it is common to mistype a product key when using setpmgr. I've done it before.

Make sure the key is in quotes, and use both Productid= and productkey= in your answer file. If that doesn't work, you're doing something you shouldn't be doing like using a xp pro retail product key on a volume license media, something stupid like that.

By the way, i have just figured out that i have a Corporate version of Windows XP pro Sp1.

what serial should i use?

You should use the pro switch

But you cannot ask for a key on MSFN
