I got a workin' unattended W2K-CD, thanks to all those guides & infos....

But I'm wondering, if it's necessary to disconnect the network/internet connection-cable during installation, because:

Installing Windows and all hardware drivers, including my network-card, I think the internet connection could be "open" and of course dangerous, before all the hotfixes are installed ?

u should be okay with the internet on.

soon sp2 will be released and the patches will be already applied...

having an open internet connection during setup isn't tooooo bad... mainly because not many services are running at all.... less services running equals less surface area to attack i don't think any of the super vunerable services run during setup

I was getting a bit nervous during watching the unattended installation and the data-light of my external network-usb device started "blinking" before all hotfixes have been installed.

(Sorry, I also forgot to explain that my hotfixes are installed during RunOnceEx.Cmd)

If you have not slipstreamed your hotfixes (you have not: they are run upon reboot) you are most certainly vulnerable to, for example, MSBLASTER, during install. Your network is wide open, TCP/IP has long been installed, and you are a sitting duck. You are also vulnerable during the GuiRunOnce phase, until you reboot and your hotfixes take effect.

Either slipstream the critical hotfixes, particularly the Security Rollup, or keep that suckah unplugged during setup.

I'm a bit surprised no one yelled at you earlier ... This is one of the main reasons behind Hotfix Slipstreaming ...
