Robotron2001 Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Hello everyone, I've installed Win98 SE on a VirtualBox Virtual Machine and I tried to setup WinSSLWrap in order to access my GMail account through Outlook Express by following these steps and advices: https://furmancomputers.com/wrapssl/index.html However I am still unable to access IMAP folders and WinSSLWrap shows this concerning message: I have already created an app password for Outlook Express and I also ticked the options of required Server authentication in the Server panel and required secure connection in the Advanced panel for both SMTP and IMAP. Where is the actual problem?
schwups Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 I'm not sure about GMail and IMAP. I have a working connection with a POP3 freenet account. However, I haven't checked SSL for listening, so also not in OE account/Properties/Advanced. Checked is SSL for remote here in WinSSLWrap. Further I didn't change the service names (still POP3 {SSL} Protocol/SMTP {SSL} Protocol).
Robotron2001 Posted December 15, 2024 Author Posted December 15, 2024 Hello everyone, I've installed Win98 SE on a VirtualBox Virtual Machine and I tried to setup WinSSLWrap in order to access my GMail account through Outlook Express by following the steps and advices in the pages below: https://msfn.org/board/topic/174247-windows-9 … rap-117-rev-08/ https://furmancomputers.com/wrapssl/index.html However I couldn't connect my GMail account despite the aforementioned tool WinSSLWrap that should allow secure SSL access required for GMail. I also created a Google app password and ticked the options of required Server authentication in the Server panel and required secure connection in the Advanced panel for both SMTP and IMAP. Then I installed the Unofficial Windows 98 Second Edition Service Pack from there: https://www.philscomputerlab.com/windows-service-packs.html I chose to install the option to update Outlook Express as I wanted to upgrade it to OE6 trying to help fix my connection problems but after booting Outlook Express didn't start anymore because MSOE.DLL could not be loaded. What do I have to do now?

There could be a bug in that SP or something went wrong. You could reinstall IE(OE)5.5 or 6.0 from another source. I'm not very familiar with Win98 service packs, because I'm running WinME, but the following links should lead to all the information you need. https://msfn.org/board/topic/61749-98-se-sp-332/ http://www.htasoft.com/u98sesp/ http://www.techtalk.cc/viewtopic.php?f=1047&t=65&sid=aee9014099ffba7695b62484f7df4567
Robotron2001 Posted December 16, 2024 Author Posted December 16, 2024 I don't know where to upgrade IE to 6 on Win98 first because I can't open the links I found by searching on Google in 98. And please avoid to answer if you know little about Win98 and you have never known anything about that Service Pack.
