Joaquim Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 how install the Windows ME on modern laptop? i installed, but(on 1st boot): 1 - if the laptop reboot, we must use the patchmem, because we have more than 1GB's of RAM; 2 - now we get an error about protection... how can i fix it?
FantasyAcquiesce Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 To install Windows ME on modern hardware, you'll need to do the following: Use the emergency disk/boot ability to run the ram patch Do the same with SATA drivers I recall these are the two main components you will need to run Windows ME physically on a modern laptop. However, I have yet to find any laptops newer than the 915PM chipset that hold full driver support. 1

It is far better to give exact message. 1 hour ago, FantasyAcquiesce said: Do the same with SATA drivers SATA on modern laptop? Are you joking? 1

Joaquim Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 finally i get sound: Quote The instructions on Operating System Revival are correct for WinME only. In case of Win98SE use for manual installation (taken from Operating System Revival + corrections): Instructions (Windows 95/98): 1. Download Watlers' driver HDADRV9J.zip 2. Place HDA2.DLL in C:\WINDOWS\System 3. Make sure HDATSR.EXE and WAVEOUT.EXE are accessible (place in "C:\WINDOWS" for convenience) 5. Add line "HDATSR.EXE" to AUTOEXEC.BAT (without quotes) 6. Add to SYSTEM.INI,[Drivers] "WAVEHDA=HDA2.DLL" (without quotes) 7. Reboot If there is no sound, try my quasi-universal version of HDAICOUT.HDA (found in DaveH's tread) and place in C:\WINDOWS and reboot. If there is sound but system is unstable try in SYSTEM.INI, [Vcache] MinFileCache=1024 MaxFileCache=1024 + you can speed-up your system by adding line "SMARTDRV.EXE" to AUTOEXEC.BAT (without quotes). Always reboot in between. from: but: 1 - after several minutes i get audio(start windows audio); 2 - the explorer is in memory, but the desktop isn't showed 1

pangoomis Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Joaquim is a patient one, for over four years trying to make his wholely incompatible laptop to work with Win9x. I've asked him plenty time to buy a cheap USB Sound Card to fix audio issues... We are Win9x experts, but we can't make laptops made later than approx ~2004 magically work with Win9x, that's why we prefer desktop PCs. 1
Joaquim Posted December 7, 2024 Author Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) i'm sorry @pangoomis, but true after several times, i get the audio... but the OS seems very very slow and i can't see the desktop, even the Explorer been on memory... maybe the turtles win hehehehe Edited December 7, 2024 by Joaquim

pangoomis Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 You know that by "magically work", I meant all drivers and all functionality (high quality built in HD Audio drivers, GPU based 3D acceleration, non-NDIS2 ethernet drivers, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc...) "without errors" - Win9x is an error by itself, but that's getting more philosophical I wonder if OP actually has a valid reason to run 9x on his laptop, other than "just because", "for fun", or "I am bored". 1
Joaquim Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 1 st - is for nostalgy 2 nd - "Joaquim is a patient one, for over four years trying to make his wholely incompatible laptop to work with Win9x." to be honest i was months trying programming Raycasting, on VB6, but i always was doing 1 mistake that i didn't knew after several months, with another updated AI, i have seen my mistake without notice(i miss normalize the radians(the math trigonometry functions use radians and not angles) for work correctly) ... yes after several months hehehehehe
pangoomis Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 VB6 should work fine on Windows XP. If still want to stick to Win9x, you can try SoftGPU on VirtualBox, or older version of VMware, or 86Box/PCem/DOSBox-X. 1
