Windows 7 X86/X64 in USB pen Installation

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

i'd like to create an USB pen with Windows 7 X86 and X64 only just like Media Creator does with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10,

without using any Utility, but just editing various BCD stores in folders BOOT and EFI.

In my test i use a X64 ISO and i do this steps:

1) rename Sources in X64\Sources and add X86\Sources

2) edit BCD uefi and Bios version to new paths.

final result i have DVD similar to media creation tool.

When i launch it. The Setup starts until you push "install Windows" and after the setup cannot find the support.

This happens just when you change the name of the original path in BCD for istance (sourcex insted of sources)

Maybe somebody know how solve this.

Thanks in adavance

Giovanni

Do you mean a message *like*

"A DVD/CD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver CD/Floppy please insert it now..." or "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing ..."

I seem to remember that you need to have the USB device set as "non-removable, *like*:

Or is it some other error? (post the EXACT error you get).

X64\Sources and X86\Sources:
The Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 setup.exe supports this.
The Windows 7 <DVD:>\setup.exe dosn't support X64\Sources and X86\Sources, the path x86 or x64 is unkown. The file install.wim is not found.

However windows 7 setup.exe supports .\Sources.
A relative path is supported.
Run <DVD:>\x86\sources\setup.exe or <DVD:>\x64\sources\setup.exe at start up. Hence at boot.wim.

What about adding a text file setup.vbs?
