June 10, 200224 yr i just bought a 15m UTP rj45 to rj45 cable, when i plug both the machines directly together i cannot establish a network, it just says "network cable unplugged" all the time. both machines are on the same workgroup name"MSHOME" but i cant get them to talk at ALL using the wizard or manually, im banging my head here!!! any ideas???
June 10, 200224 yr is it a crossover cable or passthrough...because if you are doing direct connect you need crossover
June 10, 200224 yr I agree with aKaFrEE, if your connecting 2 PC's directly together u need a X-Over cable, unless you have a hub in betwean with a X-Over port...
June 11, 200224 yr Author arrghh untrained useless staff in pc chain stores get right on my tits!!!!!!in not driving 20 miles to the shop to take it back now. i ASKED for a NIC to NIC cross over cable, he gave me this 10 meter UTP cable, it just says 10m UTP rj45 to rj45 on the box, oh sod it im buying that network starter kit from netgear, comes with 2 nics, 4 port hub, two 10m long cables and is only £35there was an 8 port hub on offer at misco a while back but they dont sell it anymore, shame :'(
June 11, 200224 yr I have that kit from Netgear It rocks, the hub especially. Problems may accure with connecting an XP and 98 comp which i came across by.
June 19, 200224 yr Fthr you must have stopped at the pub before you grabbed the cable or the clerk was a babe and you were looking at something other than the cable box?Flash, you happy with your CPU and mobo? Looks like a nice combo!
June 19, 200224 yr Not sure about in UK guys, but in USA all X-over cables I have come across hace a small 'tape' label on the that show a big red X. LS
