bookie32
Hi guys! This is something that bugs a lot of people and including me.... I have tried to move a lot of my courses .mov files to my server but Microsoft comes up with a file name too long error.... There are no special characters... Some of the files moved have longer names? What is it that causes this problem? bookie32
jaclaz
Likely you are hitting MAXPATH, i.e. a total of 260 characters in path, JFYI:http://serverfault.com/questions/232986/overcoming-maximum-file-path-length-restrictions-in-windows jaclaz
bookie32
Hi jaclaz... That is just it...the files don not exceed the max length of 260 characters...some are only 50-60 and if I shorten them it works... But as I said before some files with longer names have no problem being copied?! bookie56

Btw, I've never encountered such problem in Win7, and I use various subfolders and some long names O_o Edited April 5, 2016 by phaolo

jaclaz
Yep and AFAIK you need a special permit to have in a sentence "only" related to "50 or 60" characters in a filename (the exception is if you are a programmer from MS and are giving names to folders that go in WinSXS or .net components ). jaclaz
