AnX Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) I installed Windows XP on an ASUS X200CA laptop for my mother. While most drivers have installed, I seem to have trouble with the Conexant HD audio driver. I tried one driver which didn't work at all. Then i tried the ASUS driver which simply BSOD'd and never loaded. So my question is, is there any way to get Conexant HD, or just use a generic HD audio driver in Windows XP? Thanks. AnX Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 So far I've gotten everything but the sound to work. Just this one thing - and XP on there is a go.
submix8c Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Realtek seems to have a problem, according to this (don't know what MoBo, but...) -http://www.cybernetman.com/kb/index.cfm/fuseaction/home.viewArticles/articleId/109http://www.boredsysadmin.com/2008/03/windows-xp-sp3-and-microsoft-hd-audio.htmlhttp://timwheatley.org/www/2008/03/02/realtek-hd-audio-fix-for-windows-xp-sp3-kb835221http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-7670-no-sound-after-installing-windows-xp-professiThis one talks about a Conexant driver -https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/9a2633eb-50ba-4585-b2ce-6859f0e21079/uaa-hd-audio-windows-xp-sp3?forum=itproxpsphttp://www.davesdrivers.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2008 I assume you have SP3 installed. Seems to be a "bug" or something. I haven't actually tested any of this so... HTH and good luck.
bluebolt Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 @AnX, you probably already know about this one, just an idea, good luck: http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/1167328.html
AnX Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 The thing is, this audio chip has newer vendor IDs. As such, older versions don't work.
AnX Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 I'm really thinking that a generic audio driver should be made for Windows XP and heck even Windows 2000 while you're at it. Like the one you get in Vista+.
bluebolt Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I think I used driveridentifier.com once before, successfully, and it looks like they may have your number: http://www.driveridentifier.com/scan/conexant-smartaudio-hd/download/1788525705/39E5773FF84E48AFBE7F111391055E1D/HDAUDIO%5CFUNC_01%26VEN_14F1%26DEV_510F%26SUBSYS_1043138D This webpage layout is misleading; they don’t actually let you download the drivers, you have to install their scanner and let it have its way with your system -- not too bad if you have the luxury of doing it on a practice install. Let it scan your system, then try the drivers in the order they present them (first is likeliest to work, etc., as I recall). Kind of low-brow, I know, but it did work for me. It may put junk on your computer, so I personally wouldn’t loose it except on a practice installation. Nab that driver, then scratch your partition and start over.
AnX Posted May 31, 2015 Author Posted May 31, 2015 (edited) Well I did what bluebolt said and got drivers. I ran Windows XP updates, installed the drivers and it works! After a reboot however the sound went away. I fixed this by "updating the driver" again and not rebooting for 5 mins. Now sound works regardless of reboots. Also installed the XP "updates til 2019" patch and my mother's laptop is good to go. Edited May 31, 2015 by AnX
