Have you ever attempted a blind shutdown?

By that I mean, to say not looking at the screen, and then using the keyboard to shut the computer down.

The original purpose is to shut the computer down without looking at the display

For windows 9X-XP, I would usually press "Windows key" then "up", then "Enter"

For windows Vista I would have press "Windows Key" then "left", "left", "left" till I reach the button to press "Enter".

What is funny is that Windows is made for a blind person, in this sense, that by memory, you can shutdown, or access a program.

Another thing I want to mention is that, Windows NT 6.0 and up, seems to change the screen capture, not only that, later OSes seems to never want me to save the pictures from a website, like if the browser considers the images property of the website. I mean that is bogus, right their. To make things worst the Screen capture sometimes disable when I load a DVD. I mean come on, now.

So I was just wondering how many people ever practice, removing items from the computer, without looking as well. I mean the computer guy, agent, or whatever, might fake it sometimes, and pretend to not be able to remove an object.

I found that turning off javascript allows me to save images when right clicking on them is disabled. If that don't work, I hit the "prt scr" print screen key and paste the screen into Irfan view then crop the image.

To shutdown blind on WinME it takes three keystrokes: Windows Key, letter "u", then Enter.

Or if the computer is frozen, I use my big toe to flip the switch on that white plug-in strip on the floor.

Yes, ROTS

once I attempted a blind shutdown, and they fell off the window frame and they broke when they hit the floor.

ain't a gonna attempt it again

'cause now i don't got no blinds covering my window, and the moonlight shining thru my window keeps me awake at nite.

My advice to everyone on this forum:

never, never, never attempt a blind shutdown 'cause you might wind up like me.

I attempted to blindly change the screen resolution via win9x Display Properties once, and once I tried to blindly shut down a hung full screen game from an invisible Task Manager launched via the visible Lock Computer screen. Both were successful.

Luckily Alt-F4 still works on Win 2012 (Metro). It also seems intuitive, i.e. closing the parent window of all other windows.

I definitely have run a computer blind before but it has been a long time.

The key is to visualize the computer screen even if you can't see it. It is also a required skill for anyone who does telephone technical support. At least then, sometimes, you can be assisted by the customer. Sometimes that doesn't help.
