cmd.exe and spaces in filenames

This is a newbie question, for which I could not find an

answer in the Win7 help:

How to access directories/files with spaces in their names

from Windows 7 cmd.exe command line? I tried with the space

and with some html space markers, as %20 and . None

worked.

FAT had an 8.3 filename for use in such cases, but

NTFS does not.

O/S: Windows 7 Home, x86 version.

Unless you have disabled/removed it, Win 7, including Win 7 x64, has the ability to utilize the 8.3 version of the file name or path as well. You just have to figure out what it is.

... and all these years I thought that DIR /X was made for that ...

Well, sure, if you want to "cheat" and do it the easy way. LOL Thanks for the reminder. :)
