Featured Replies

Hey!

i dont know whats wrong :( today i bought a new usb stick Lexar Triton Jumpdrive 32GB

i used an USB HDD to install OS's and want to use my USB stick now, i use winsetupufromsb since its a great tool and very easy tool

i tried to format the stick same like my usb hdd

1st: FAT32 3GB Boot_Tools

2nd: NTFS 2GB XP_Install

3rd: NTFS 9GB W7_Install

i use acronis for that, partitions have been created and formatted but it just cant assign drive letter?!

and iam on win7 x64 ult

thanks!

"by design" Windows NT does NOT "allow" mounting partitions (exceptions made for first one) on devices that are marked as removable.

There are two different approaches to solve this:

  1. find the "manufacturer tool" for the stick and change the "removable" to "fixed"
  2. use a filter dirver

some info about filter drivers are here though cannot say if 64 bit version exist and - if they exist - if you will need to disable driver signing:

Manufacturer's tools can usually be found here:

You may also use BootIce for example and flip which partition is visible to Windows- Parts Manage-->ReFormat USB disk-->Set Accessible. Still a bit limiting, only one partition visible at a time.

@ilko, btw. maybe u could update bootice from winsetupfromusb to BOOTICE v2012.05.20

the old vresion have problem viewing the correct available space where we can multi-partition disks

edit: since the dl link for the filter driver is done i came accross this site: http://agnipulse.com/2012/03/filter-drivers-removable-media-fixed-disk-windows/

i have downloaded diskmod from here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8klnry5n2kzoflk/zu-PR4QWut

installed diskmod.inf with rightclick and executed UFDasHDD.bat, replugged usb stick and now it is a fixed device and can view my partitions :)

It will be updated in the next version. Meanwhile I have just added it to download list where current version of WinSetupFromUSB is:
