herbalist
Is there any way this "fix" could be used on the latest version of SeaMonkey? 2.0 works well with KEX but 2.1 and up have the same problem as FireFox, stalling out and taking forever to load. Steven W
I wish I would have seen this post earlier in the day, Was working on my friend's old 98 box. I had FF 4 up and running, although very poorly. I noticed in the options that there was a checkbox that could be used to disable use of hardware acceleration. Are there any build options to disable it completely? If so, that might take care of the need for the DirectX SDK.
frogman
Think I may keep using FF3.6.20 till the bugs are fixed, noticed that FF6 is out now.
felicitas
Updated to Firefox 6, see first post for details I think I've found the reason for this bug. Expect some information in the next few days on KernelEx' bugtracker. I don't have that much time at the moment, sorry. Short version: UnlockFileEx unimplemented(easy to fix), region locks affect file mappings to everyone, even the creator(in case anyone wants to take a look at it).I haven't looked at the bookmark and history issues yet, but I can absolutely confirm them.Maybe there will be also a Seamonkey 2.2 build for 9x soon if no unexpected problems show up. rainyd
It's pretty amazing to see possibility of running Firefox 5 or even 6 on those old systems.Felicitas, despite of those issues, you're doing a great job!
frogman
Kudos from the peanut gallery...Just took this for a test drive and was kind of amazed! It successfully grabbed all my Firefox 3.xx add-ons and offered to update as needed. Did you manage to import the FF bookmarks?

Steven W
trevor89, you mentioned GoodOldFavorites extension, did you mean PlainOldFavorites? I found that this lets me use IE's favorites even adding links. Think this is what I'm going to set up as a work around until the bookmarks problem is fixed.Edit: This gets even better! The menu editor lets me remove 'Bookmarks' from the menu bar.https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/plainoldfavorites/http://menueditor.mozdev.org/ Edited August 21, 2011 by Steven W

Giant2011
Hi there, maybe it is also good to look at the new Firefox version 7 Beta 5. Version 7 seems to have a better memory management.I have not tested it yet. But maybe it is worth to do that.
frogman
Has anyone managed to run Firefox 6 or 7 on 98 with Kernel Ex to run as fast as Firefox 3 ?
