After getting hit with some nasty spyware I had to re-install Windows 7 from scratch. During the install I'm now randomly getting this error during the install. The weird part is that it happens randomly at different times during the install. I don't think it's the CD since its the same one I used when I first installed it.

Are you using an answer file? Also what Windows is it?

No answer file from what I'm aware. I'm using the OEM install CD from HP for Windows 7 32-bit that came with my HP Elite 8100.

Might be a scratched CD

physically looks ok, the error pops up after the file copy is done and it's configuring the components....

Hmm. Are you deleting partitions and selecting the new empty space on the disk when prompted, or does it just go right into installing Windows?

it lets me do a custom install, i wiped out all the partitions and still no luck

That's very interesting. Is it always the same error message as the screenshot shows?

It is just a guess, is it something to do with "System Reserved" partition?

I was able to figure it out. Not sure why this worked but it did.

I set the SATA mode to IDE, booted with a Windows 98 boot disk, ran an fdisk /mbr

Next time I ran through the install, everything worked!
