Guest
Did you install fax services via Add/Remove Windows Components? Edited February 13, 2011 by -X-

Guest
OK, well I was just guessing that you hadn't installed the fax components.A Google search on fax service manager show that it is part of Windows Server 2008 R2, not XP.
luke77
There is some incorrect information that says it is in XP.I don't recall the site.I could not receive a fax.My modem was trying to connect, but timed out.The Event Viewer had a generic error code.Maybe the phone lines weren't good on that particular day.I have sucessfully received faxes before.Andy

luke77
Dear Microsoft and Bill Gates,Why did your company break my fax modems with Service Pack 3 ?Have I gone onto your property and broken some of your "stuff" ?----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Since the post, I went back and did a System Restore to before SP3 wasapplied and my fax service works again. So apparently there is aproblem with SP3 and a working SP2 Windows Fax Service IMHO.Another issue that occured during my troubles was; after opening theFax Console (and not getting any services, not being able to see anypreviously sent faxes, etc., the system kept telling me that a WindowsShared Fax Printer Driver needed to be installed - of course thereisn't a driver to install because it is already installed... nor do Ihave a disk to install the "driver" from, there is no "Microsoft"subheading to select a set of drivers from here nor can I find one onthe MS Windows Update or Technet site. When I was finally able to getthe Fax driver Properties window open, it said I was running the SP3version.If I have more time to waste (sarcasm), I will reinstall SP3 to getmore detail than provided here, but for now, I can say that on mysystem SP3 broke my Fax Service. submix8c
Might I suggest trying (if you haven't already) installing the Full SP3 (not the Windows Update one)? Go to MS, find it, download it (size=272mb), run it. There's a number of files related to Fax (including one named "faxpatch.exe") in it - maybe this is the problem?
