bristols Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I read in wikipedia .net framework version 2.0SP2 is the latest official package supporting win2k.Is there some important update needed for it?Here is a direct download link for .NET 2 SP2:http://download.microsoft.com/download/c/6/e/c6e88215-0178-4c6c-b5f3-158ff77b1f38/NetFx20SP2_x86.exeAs far as I am aware, that is the last official release for .NET 2x for Windows 2000.However, MFSN member blackwingcat has .NET 3.5 SP1 working:http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/1095338.html (page in Japanese).Making a switchless installer for slipstreaming is beyond my ken, I'm afraid.
brutus1234 Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 ... .NET 3.5 SP1 working:http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/1095338.html (page in Japanese).Making a switchless installer for slipstreaming is beyond my ken, I'm afraid. And beyond mine too. So, I will stay with 2.0SP2. Just wanted to add relevant hotfixes/security/critical update, if any.How can I know about them?

brutus1234 Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 I need some help.In KB articles explaining about these updates for .net20sp2 I read there are two update branchs shipping into the package: GDR branch and LDR branch.I can't understand the difference. What will happen when trying to install such a package on a win2k system? Will GDR branch be installed? Will LDR branch?Perhaps will it refuse to run?
brutus1234 Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Will GDR branch be installed? Will LDR branch? It seems the GDR branch has been installed.Perhaps will it refuse to run?No, it runs flawlessly and updates the files.Back soon with new data about these hotfix.

tomasz86 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) There is one more security update from 2011-04-05.KB2446704-v2@edit Edited May 13, 2011 by tomasz86
Pauldog Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 KB971111 is only for Windows 2000, not for XP and newer. As tomasz86 mentioned elsewhere, all the other updates listed will work fine with Windows 2000, even though they're listed for XP and not 2000. (This must be because of MS dropping support for 2000 and not bothering to list relevant updates any more.).SeeKB2446704 (MS11-028) replaces KB983583 (MS10-060).We should have a sticky on this.
