Hello, it's possible install Windows 2000 to a usb drive?

This installs windows FROM usb... I search a windows 2000 that installs TO usb drive (hdd external, pen drive, ecc)

Microsoft doesn't want you to install Windows on a removable device, so there is no official method.

I know no answer for the unofficial ones; most attempts were made for Xp rather.

If this exists for W2k, the present forum is an excellent place to hear of it.

Please name the "Bart geeks" that said it can't be done, I doubt that ANY person rightfully defined as "Bart geek" can have missed the original thread on 911CD:

What the "Bart geeks" say is that ye can not build a WinPE environment out of Windows 2000 or anything before XP sp1. This is not a regular install of Windows: the registry is not saved after a session. There's many issues involved in loading Windows in MiniNT form, that is not in the regular form.

Installing a usable Windows 2000 session on a diskette, is a different story. There are of course, technical issues, including telling Windows to look into disk 0 for boot. There are also other issues in that USB pen drives are not exactly suited to the abuse that registry does to hard disks. Most hard disk failures i have seen have been at the point where the registry gets written.

Still, i should not imagine that it would be an insurmountable problem: even if the disk is swapped from a computer to a USB case.

How can i create bootable USB/ISO file with Windows 2000 ?

I have hardrive full backup from old PC with W2k (img file made by linux dd command). Insidee are two partition.

I want to start first partition (C:) on the virtual machine.

By Rufus software i made a USB stick from that backup (only first partition is on the usb stick).

And now i want to have bootable ISO, to run on virtual machine.

How can i do that ?
