When I copy I386 from CD to hard disk the 500 mb becames 800mb and the nlite result is too big for a cd

No, the trouble is while copying the original I386 from the ms cd to local disk

Are you using a multi-in-one disk?

I ask because a standard XP disk only contains 1 set of files, but a multi-os disk will contain several sets of the same file in hardlinks to save space. However when copied windows will create all of the copies and ignore the hardlinks.

If you are using an official cd (i.e. a pretty, holigramed one) then you shouldn't be experiencing this issue.

Your "no" implies it's not an nLite problem but a Windows problem.

When selected for copy, the size should be the same as on HDD after paste. Just "size on disk" could be different but not that much. Unless youy take the readings in a totally different way or paste to a directory that's not empty at first (check for hidden files ?).

Do you copy manually or do you let nLite make the copy ?

mzik, I don't see any problems here. I do not recognize the screen shot. What version of Windows are you using? Please go to Folder Options-View tab and make sure that hidden and system files are not hidden. Enjoy, John.

That's the "original" RTM (5.1.2600.0). It didn't have the .Net folder and [files] is undoubtedly the other Root files. Yes/no/maybe? Shouldn't copy over anything but what you need (same size). Try making a folder (anywhere) and copy only the I386 folder (the whole folder) and the [files] to it then try again. "Folder" should be less than 400mb. These are all that are necessary.

Surely, you aren't copying the SP3.EXE Service Pack File to the "folder"... NO NO NO!!! You will be unnecessarily adding roughly 300mb to the CD! nLite INTEGRATES it into the I386 (replaces the older files with the newer SP3)!!! (There's your extra megabytes IF you are...)
