zzjing
Thanks for the great list. Newbie question, how do you make sure the updates are applied or integrated in the correct order?
steven4554
Hi, if you apply or integrate a update that's already on the system or offline image, then DISM will skip it. And you can integrate any update in any order, just be sure to leave out the updates in the lists that have the Non-Integrate labelled beside it, and you'll be fine. As for installing, the updates that won't work when integrated will need to be installed after installation of Win7, like KB2533552 for example. I guess IE11 is an exception then. I saw your instructions in another thread and it worked. Can DISM give a warning when it skips or fails to integrate an update? Also, is the System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821) also Non-Integrate? What about the other Optional Updates?
steven4554
As long as you install/integrate the required updates for IE11 to work in Win7 SP1, you should be fine Yes, it will give an error message and usually details info on what to do next. As for KB947821, you can sort of integrate it, but it's not really a update, it's more of a tool to resolving problems with the system files. It's best to leave that alone, unless you're facing issues with your system. Everything in the Optional section is non-integrate, but you can integrate them using 3 methods:- 1) Reverse Integration, This involves installing a version of Win7 that's customised with your settings and programs included in the offline image. Beware, that this can be a lengthy process depending on your system configuration. 2) Setup scripts, these run after Win7 installation has finished but before you can access the desktop, so your programs will be there when you login for the first time (hopefully!) 3) Using 3rd party programs, to config your offline images, some will even allow you to install updates on a live system, like WinToolkit. zzjing
Thanks again for the detailed reply. Some of the integrated updates show up again in Windows Update after a Language Pack is installed. Is this normal?
steven4554
Yes it is, cause the updates would require that language pack in order to work in that language.
topstuff
Hey steven, Great advice and support Been building my ISO's with your updates (all the correct integrate ones only) using DISMcommand line method. It seems upon installing win7x64 integrated ISO, there are some .NET warnings".NET Runtime Optimization Service Version or flavor did not match with repository" in EventViewer. Wasn't bothered by them until installing more .NET security fixes and the same errorswere popping up after the patches run. FYI I use the ngen -executequeueditems flag to compileafter a reboot of the updates. The most recent patch Tuesday produced 78 of the '.NET Runtime Optimization Service Version orflavor did not match with repository warnings' with different targets. Looking back, there are thosewarnings each time a new .NET patch is run. Is there something I special I need to do with DISM to integrate .NET 3.5.1 security patches or is it thewarnings just something we have to live with with integration? steven4554
Errors like these are okay, it's just NGEN optimising the files, and most times these errors will pop up often.Even happens to me, and I've not had any problems with both .NET 3.5.1 or 4.5.3. vseven
Really appreciate these lists. I know they are aimed at home users but I use them for integration at work. The tags for "non-integrate" have been extremely helpful also. Saves over a hour per machine integrating these over waiting for windows updates.
