bish542002
hello everyone,Does anyone know how to make a recovery partition on a hard drive using 2 Recovery DVDs. What I want to do is take the 2 DVDs I have and partition about 10 GB of my HDD to make it bootable so I won't have to deal with inserting a DVD and swapping it out. If I succeed in making a recovery drive, how do I make it bootable from 2 DVDs and by pressing f10 or something? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Ponch
Search the forum for threads with "recovery partition" in the tittle or follow Jaclaz links here.
Andromeda43
If your hard drive crashes, NO recovery partition is going to help you.Your hard drive WILL crash, not IF but WHEN.So having your restore files on that drive is pure suicide. You will still need a good backup on DVD or Flash Drive to recover to a new HD.And your restore program should be on some Bootable Media..... CD, DVD, Flash Drive, etc.To be safe, you should be making new backup DVD's on a weekly basis. (at least)Or, possibly making your backup to a removable USB drive. There are many programs that you can use to do this.I personally prefer Ghost, but Acronis True Image is another good program tomake full drive (partition) backups.Good Luck,B)
bish542002
The DVDs came with the laptop. I have heard that if you want to reinstall to factory settings that it would be faster to have them ona seperate partition. I do understand if it crashes all is a waste. Thanks all
jaclaz
The DVDs came with the laptop.Sure , we didn't think for a minute that they came with your hair drier or with your microwave oven. If I may re-word Tripredacus question:Where did BOTH the DVD's AND the laptop came from? Possible answers:they were made by elves and came from the magic forestthey were made by noone, they just appeared out of nowhere when I used my magic wandthey were made by and came from HPthey were made by and came from Lenovothey were made by and came from Sonythey were made by and came from (name any other laptop manufacturer, and while you are at it, tell us also the model and which OS came with it)jaclaz Edited September 17, 2009 by jaclaz

Jaclaz you naughty boy,... we shouldn't laugh that much at the OP's answer, look at ours having your restore files on that drive is pure suicide......your restore program should be on some Bootable Media..... Tripredacus
Nice catch Ponch!Ok OP, basically, if you run your recovery CDs and it doesn't put the partition on there, you're going to have to figure it out for yourself. The Recovery Media Creator is not designed to recreate the partition, only make the CD/DVDs needed to reinstall the OS to factory specs. Of course if its a Sony or ARM, I may be wrong.
