MillenX Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Is Vista service pack 2 RTM the SP2 final (6002.18002)?What is the difference between a RTM and a public version?
Kelsenellenelvian Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 RTM = Release to manufacturerNot quite public yet.
Tripredacus Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 A product reaches RTM stage when it has completed all alpha, beta and release candidate phases. It is also known as "Gold" phase, or the time when the product is final and can be then sold in stores or to resellers.
MagicAndre1981 Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Sp2 RTM (installer) is available for Technet/MSDN Subscriber
MillenX Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 Since it has completed all the testing phrases and is final, why is it only released to manufacturer but not both manufacturer and public? That's my point.
MagicAndre1981 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 the point is, that developers should test their software (applications, drivers ..) and create updates if required before the public gets the sp2

This is why you can go to the store and get an HP with a new OS before the retail copies are available. Or they try for a simultaneous release, so that new PCs hit the stores the same time as the new media does.

MillenX Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 will there be any changes made to SP2 RTM before releasing to public?
hclarkjr Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 doubtful, even if there was changes you can get whatever they change from windows update.
MagicAndre1981 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 @Millen, yes this is the RTM! If MSFT now finds bugs, you'll get them later as Hotfixes/Updates.
arctirus Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Sp2 and integrated sp2 isos just showed up on the MS volume license site.
