hairbautt
I have been thinking about removing XP's default Defrag tool but i don't know if it's wise or what program i should use to replace it. Could anyone give me a suggestion?I highly recommend Piriform's Defraggler. Simple, easy, free. And this thing performs the fastest HDD analysis ever.Piriform Homepage: http://www.piriform.com/Drefraggler Homepage: http://www.defraggler.com/You can use this guide to edit your XP registry and have Defraggler set as the default system defragmenter: http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/1248/I remove XP's default defragmenter using nlite and I install defraggler and set it as XP's default (so you can still click the link in Control Panel and Drive Properties) with no problems. First thing I do, in fact. Best decision ever
Ponch
Search the forum for "defrag" or "defragmenter", you'll find tons of threads about them. There is a sticky in the software forum for a start.
GrofLuigi
I keep it, although I may install another defragmenter. As they say here, eats no food, drinks no water. (It takes no resources). GL
JenniferArden
I always remove the standard XP defragmenter and after I installed my custom XP cd I install Diskeeper Pro Premier
minotaur
If you install Diskeeper, you don't need to worry about the built-in XP defrag, it is automatically superseded.I use Diskeeper 2009 Pro, and all defragmentation tasks have been taken over by Diskeeper on my system...even when I right-click->tools->defrag, it's diskeeper that pops up.To the OP: don't bother with removing the xp defragger, you can just choose not to run it.
