Drugwash Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 What about SmoothText, wasn't that one designed for Win2000 or am I mistaken? It's WildBill's.
bob2000 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Thanks a lot for the info.I'm aware of SmoothText, and I have been using it for some time now.Lately I have also been giving WildBill my small contribution, with a few suggestions on how to expand SmoothText. What caught my attention in this thread is Tihiy's claim that this is the real ClearType, which sounds very promising. That made me wonder if the same approach could be adopted on Win2000.
craig_s Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 (edited) ...just waiting for this...Great Job, Tihiy !!My Win98 didn't like the MSReaderSetupUSA.exe or any other language:"MSREADERSETUPUSA caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 0197:bff7a4b2. ... ..."I had to reboot...If that happens just extract the exe by Tugzip or other packer to get the setup....remove the zip file and any links directly to it......hmmm, you've been too fast whatever420, but to explain the howto should not collapse with "forum rule 1b"?"put the files into system folder and maybe register them or something"..Please help us ignorants.. halohalo Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Tihiy, all,Does this work on Windows 2000 by any chance? With the Microsoft Reader supporting all OSs, I would imagine it all depends on the new DLL.You may use GDI++.dll(FreeType version) instead, although it is buggy.
erpdude8 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) Tihiy, all,Does this work on Windows 2000 by any chance? With the Microsoft Reader supporting all OSs, I would imagine it all depends on the new DLL.All 32bit OSes except Win95. See MS Reader's System Requirements from the Downloads page:http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/pc.aspxSystem requirements of MS Reader do not mention Win95.It even works with WIndows 95.Not perfect, but even though it's still amazing that it's possible at all.are you absolutely sure, NoNameNeeded? Can you install MS Reader on your Win95 computer and see if Cleartype works on it? confirm what kind of Win95 machine you use here. Edited October 15, 2010 by erpdude8
Prozactive Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) Thanks for resurrecting this old thread. I've found that the ClearType checkbox in Revolutions Pack does not stay checked for some reason (several versions), and consequently I'm not sure if ClearType is enabled. Nothing is obvious visually.. is there anything specific I should look for? Edited October 16, 2010 by Prozactive
M()zart Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Make a screenshot of some text (better, black text on white background) and then magnify it several times to see separate pixels. If there are colored pixels on the font borders, then ClearType is on.
Prozactive Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the advice. I tried it with several screenshot examples and apparently ClearType is not enabled, as indicated by the unchecked checkbox in RP config. I'm not sure what is required to enable it.. perhaps there's some prerequisite that I'm missing. Edited October 18, 2010 by Prozactive
