Gradius2
The number of re-writes isn't what concerns me. They pulled the firmware for "validation" so I'm wondering if I should re-download and re-flash my drive after they validate the firmware even though the SD1A update on Monday worked for me...Well, after all this, I dunno if they will ever release SD1A again. But if they release it again (SD1A), just check with SHA1 (md5 isn't reliable), if they're the same, no need to re-flashing again.I'll only re-flash if they are indeed different and confirmed working fine.Gradius

Gradius2
Can you post your log file so we can see what it looks like?Sorry, but I'll only be able to see when I need to fix the HDDs again (?), this is because I use and need them working on computer everyday.I careless with the whole "320 log bug", since I can repair it myself at any time given. The only thing I'm waiting is the final fix from Seagate (stable firmware), to end this case once for all.If you're afraid about "320 log bug", just buy the fixing kit, after all is $25 or less.Gradius

They're uniques. The only way is by accessing the serial port on a terminal, and typing all those commands to fixing them (or buying very expensive tools, or RMA all them).Currently RS232 to TTL (complete kit) is around $25.Gradius Edited January 21, 2009 by Gradius2

craig.b
@Gradius2 First hello. hi Gradius2 been lurking on these lists 3 or 4 weeks, and have seen your advice.very interested in your methods of directly talking to the hdd's. I've never seen this before, but suppose it's all logical when u think about it (communication wise).can you provide link to the RS232/TTL convertors you suggested... or is it simply a MAX232 based solution for example :http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RS232-Serial-Port-To...A1%7C240%3A1318i do understand the principles, after been a radio ham, and using circuits similar over the years.again, many thanks for all your info in this field.craigSTM31000340AS * 2 MX15ST31000340AS * 2 SD15

poolcarpet
Craig,If you are in UK, you can try this too (the seller is in UK):http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAX232-RS232-to-TTL-...%3A1|240%3A1318I've ordered one, and am waiting for it to arrive. Numerous people have confirmed the fix works. After you've fixed your hard disk, I would suggest deferring the firmware update till Seagate pull themselves together and release a PROPER firmware. Otherwise you may brick your hard disk again. @Gradius2 First hello. hi Gradius2 been lurking on these lists 3 or 4 weeks, and have seen your advice.very interested in your methods of directly talking to the hdd's.
