koden Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Hello...I have a boot USB key where i have ghost.exeI can with this USB key boot up and type ghost.exe and then make a ghost image.Working fine...But is it possible to put another exe file on the usb key...An exe file that can be called and used to make and format for ex. 2 partitions on my empty harddisk?
harveylee Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 maybe you could use Norton Partition Magic DOS Edition
koden Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 Yes...I have partion magic 8.0 but I can't see what exe file i have to use from the CD?
beats Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 You have to create PM boot disks with Partion Magic first, then copy the files from the PM boot disks to your USB key.
koden Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 okay..thanks... if i do that i can then use the usb key to booth ghost and PM?
Ponch Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 (edited) Use part.exe or part244.exe from this page. Tiny, powerfull, precise, quick. It cannot format NTFS but it's not a problem if you reapply Ghost images.+I don't think this thread has anything to do with Windows XP (?) Edited December 2, 2008 by Ponch
koden Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 It's importend taht it can make 2 partitions. The format of partition 2 can i do manuel after putting the ghost image on partition 1.Thanks..No XP is it not...please move to ??
koden Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 (edited) i have now used part244.exe... boot up on my USB keyI make boot and get this blue window..But maybe it's to advanced for me.I get this blue picture where I can se MBR as nr. 0 and then 1-7 unused space.2 is not unused. This is my USB boot key ???I had hoped to see my 10 GB harddsik somewhere....?AAAhhhh...press F5 to change and I can see my 10 GB disk where I have a 10 GB partition on nr. 2 of the 0-7.Why is the USB and the disk seen as nr. 2? What is no 1? Unused it says...but has this something to do with floppy drive is reserved as nr. 1?I delete the partion on 2. I press enter on 2 and make a fat32 8 GB partion. Works fine...I go to 3 and press enter...make a fat32 partion on 1,8 GB rest disk place...But it fails wih an error that says "boot sectors doesn't have valid information". koden Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 (edited) okay...i just had to format the first partiton before going to 2..But I started on 1 and the program aut. jump to 2 and make the first partion there ??Only problem now is that ghost.exe no longer can see my USB 3,5" dsk where my ghost image is...But then i have to burn a disk with image or do you know why? Edited December 4, 2008 by koden
Ponch Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Only problem now is that ghost.exe no longer can see my USB 3,5" dsk where my ghost image is...Your floppy has probably shifted to "B:" so if you launch by command line it has to be corrected.Err...you have a Ghost image on a floppy ? For partitions, the first one can only begin at "head 1", hence the "unused space" after MBR.
koden Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 I use part244.exe and it's working...but no NTFS.I would prefer to use PM.I have installed PM 8 but can't see where i make the PM boot disks?Anyone who can guide me?
IcemanND Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Ghost comes with its own partitioning utility.
koden Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 OKAY... thanks..So as there is a ghost.exe there must also be a "partition.exe" in my ghost 12 installation or is it not this you mean?
IcemanND Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 app is called GDISK, may not be in the home version, might only be in the enterprise versions of ghost.
Ponch Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I use part244.exe and it's working...but no NTFS.Using the "Ins" key you get more choice for partition type and can choose NTFS. As stated before, you can create an NTFS partition but cannot format it (not supported by that old program).
