CoffeeFiend Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Wow, another old POS.Anyways, here. Not that it really fixes much.
weEvil Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Wow, another old POS.Yeah seriously. If you string up all the old equipment you have in a cluster, you can have the equivalent power of a $800 PC now.
starcraftmaster Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 is there a read me that will tell me what this will doand can i trust a beta?
starcraftmaster Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 is this http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherb...mp;FileID=11337for this mother board http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherb...?ProductID=1589becasue this is not my mother board lolam not sure if there the same download i seached the giga byte web site and this is what i found
PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 be nice people. not everyone has a PC budget. some people have to squeeze the last drop of life from their electronics before upgrading.as for the comment about whether a beta can be trusted, id vote yes. worst case scenario it dies during a BIOS flash or fails to boot. but even then:Includes DualBIOS technology (optional) ; 4Mbit Flash RAMhttp://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Mother...?ProductID=1507if yours has the "optional" dual bios, the mobo isnt a complete loss and can be recovered from a failed update.
Sysdll Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 The only info on the beta bios is that it updates CPUID microcode. My guess it’s to recognize Tualatin cpu’s that were new in 2002. Put a Celeron 1.4ghz on that little board with 512mb ram and Windows Me and it’ll be just fine.“To Do With More, What Can Be Done With Less Is Folly”
starcraftmaster Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 do you think it will support Tualatin cpu’s if i update the bios that is great becasue i got one that is 1100mhz but its Tualatin cpubut is this the right bios update for my computer?aways got to be sure
weEvil Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 do you think it will support Tualatin cpu’s if i update the biosCheck the changelog or any readme files that came with the driver. Also check the manufacturer's website thoroughly. Motherboard download, and specs sections, and any user manuals that you can sometimes download.
Sysdll Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I’ve copied and pasted this from the Gigabyte site. “CPU support of motherboard is consist of BIOS and hardware design”No help at all there. And then there’s this site.http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/GA-6WMM7.htmlCheck the model numbers on your 1.1 Celeron and see if they match the one’s that will work.
starcraftmaster Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 its looks like my celeron is there on the website but when i put it in the computer the computer goes BEEP BEEP BEEPand it dont start at alldoes it got the be the rigth heat sink because am using the one that came with the mother board
starcraftmaster Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 wait it goes beep beep beep when theres no heat sinkthe computer loading light goes on but the computer is on light dont go on when i put the celeron on
PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 wait it goes beep beep beep when theres no heat sinkthat should NEVER happen. not the "beep beep beep" part, the "when theres no heat sink" part. you should NEVER boot a PC without a heatsink attached. depending on CPU make/model, you can fry a good CPU in a matter of seconds.
starcraftmaster Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 ah i mean when i put the celeron in and the heat sink in it dosent turn on
weEvil Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 ah i mean when i put the celeron in and the heat sink in it dosent turn onYou need memory, the CPU, a keyboard, and reccomended cdrom and hard drive to boot.
