Can't integrate IE7 as hotfix

Hey all,

I am quite new to all this, please be patient

I created a slipstreamed XP (almost all Updates are fine, a few are missing but I wanted to fix that at the end). Without IE7 it works fine. I used to manually install IE7 after installing the slipstreamed XP (to make the WinUpdate check for missing patches more easy) and it always worked.

However, when I also slipstream IE7, it never works. I tried only IE7, and IE7 with all updates. I put all that at the top of the hotfix list or at the end, no difference.

Please take a look at the attached ini.(as well as the error messages)... It is all pretty basic, except the hotfixes I only entered language settings and admin passwords (and stuff like that). What do I do wrong?

I searched this forum and other places, everywhere it is said IE7 can be easily integrated (and it is the newer install without WGA check), but it just doesn't work.

Do I have to put the IE7 including all updates into the SVCPACK.INF? Hell, I don't even know if I can easily combine nLite and the SVCPACK.INF...?

And before you recommend other UpdatePacks and such: I need to make sure that all files (except nLite) have been downloaded from MS, for certain security reasons. Only if there is no other way in the end, I would use extra add-ons. Besides that, I just want to know why I am the only one who can't slipstream IE7??

Well first of all, thanks a lot for the info!

However, I would really like to (almost have to) stay away from add-ons where there they don't seem necessary (and as far as I understand there should be no problem with IE7).

The XP-CDs that I want to create will be used in our offices, so....

Kaneda, does that happens when you run IE on that OS installed or during integration?

I presume it's the first case, then it could be that you integrate some hotfixes which are for IE6, it's probably the case since there are so many of them.

Try it virtual in Virtual PC for example with just IE7 added, if it fails please attach that preset. If it works then start adding hotfixes ABOVE IE7 unless they are IE7 hotfixes then BELOW IE7 installer. Ok? There are plenty of sites explaining which hotfix is for what. Usually it's enough to move them above IE7 but lets play safe.

I know you tried with IE7 on the bottom and usually that should have worked but I would never recommend integrating obsolete (IE6) hotfix if you integrate IE7 anyway.

Btw nLite doesn't support Directx installer integration as far as I know, you must have got a few warnings during integration?

thanks for the help! (and nice tool you got there ).

I will check if I really removed all IE6 patches, I thought I did so. The error always happen after installation, during setup everything runs fine.

For the DirectX I didn't get an error, but it isn't the DirectX Installer, just a hotfix for it, this also doesn't work? I just read somewhere that DirectX9 was included in SP2, hence I thought it makes sense to include it. Shame on me

But I maybe found another problem, if that is the reason, then REALLY shame on me, because I simply didn't see it before. The only original XP-CD incl. SP2 that I could find in the my Dept. apparently is only an upgrade CD (other CDs are pre-SP2). I realised that when I tried something else in Virtual PC and the setup complained. Interestingly, the slipstreamed CD I created with it did not complain about that during setup and installed XP flawlessly (except IE7).

Could that be the reason? Or is even an upgrade CD "officially" enough for slipstreaming (sames files, just different license?)

Though in VirtualPC is used to install on an clean virtual HD, whereas the slipstreamed CD I tried on a Laptop that had alreay XP installed (though of course I always formatted it). But maybe that existing XP(before format by the XP setup) was enough to convince the Upgrade-Install to not complain?

OK, first install only with IE7 crashed during setup. Then I installed with all IE7 updates but forget to slipstream the network drivers and it works. I wonder if its the drivers...

I will try some more tomorrow and then we will see...

Kaneda, crashed during setup with just IE sounds interesting to me, what was the message, where is the preset, do I have to raise my voice ?

sorry for the late reply:

The ini is attached, can't remember the error message right now. It appeared when the setup bluescreen finally disappears and the first time the Standard Windows blue background is visible. At this moment it says something about a rundll error and it restarted the setup. There was not much other information in that error message, but if you want, I can create that XP CD again and install and therefre get the error again...

hm it must be the network drivers for the Intel Pro1000 card. I removed them and slipstreamed all Hotfixes and IE7 including all Hotfixes and it worked.

Strange... do you need the driverfile or some more info on that? Or is this a known issue?

well, it was certainly the driver. All other previous builds incl. slipstreamed WMP11 work now too. Apparently this driver needs to be installed with an exe ile.
