SmoothText 1.1.8

Recommended Posts

Woot! It ran on my existing physical install of 2000 with overriding controls, but I saw no hover...

EDIT: Hover only works on elements that already come with a hover response (quick launch button icons will changed to their skinned state when hovered). Rest of taskbar does not.

EDIT2: Clicking a submenu will cause the menu to freeze. Exiting SmoothText (sometimes takes explorer with it) will unfreeze the menus. No problems by simply hovering over the menu. EDIT4: TrueTransparency-specific so far.

EDIT3: Disabling Daedalus, TT, and IconDesk and restarting SmoothText doesn't fix the lack of hover.

Do you have "Highlight Components" checked? This is necessary for hover to work.

D'oh! I'll check that.

EDIT: That did the trick! I misunderstood the text label ><.

EDIT2: Err... I'm seeing some strange behavior with Hot states; the hot state it uses is always the last hot state defined in the list. It also messes up Pressed states on the checkbox in the same fashion; it only uses the last defined pressed state image. Something in your incrementing code?

Hey WildBill,

I discovered a 'bug' in Paint.

http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/1379/7leaf.png

Look at the rainbow inactive/active text; it occurs if transparent is on in paint, and a bunch of foreground colours are chosen sequentially without somehow causing an update (which returns the text to normal). Commiting the text does not leave the artifact, although it can (and was) captured with a screenshot.

Feature? ;)

Hi Colonel O'Neill,and WildBill

Did you call me ?

My blog moved http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/.

I think that anyone installs windows 2000 in new mother board, he had better use intergrated Win2000 CD SP4 and SATA and Intel Chipset with n-Lite.

I want to translate, compile and upload Japanese version.

Where and How to upload it ;) ?

I found small problem on Firefox 3.5.

It occurs when I press the arrow keys in text area.

post-194613-1249633868_thumb.png

it is normal on firefox 2.0.0.22.

0.9.8 works superbly on single-core mode.

You should get in contact with Blackwingcat, see if he has any words of advice. His blog is at http://w2k.livedoor.biz/ and he's doing some pretty crazy stuff with 2000. He also has it installed on three systems, which are listed on the left.

Text caret bug confirmed, although I remember reporting the same effect except while typing.

I noticed that the toolbar background includes the start menu (and for some reason, only the Favorites menu in Explorer.)

nicet.th.png

It looks awesome, except the image only draws after being hovered over (so to draw the whole menu, one would have to hover over every entry in the menu).

And for some reason, the start button will not draw in it's entirety; there is always a few pixels of border on each side. For another strange reason, this problem goes away when KDW's registry entries are in place.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. After working so hard on 1.0.0 I've been taking it a lot slower so I can get some other things done. That said, I'm testing a fix for the taskbar clock (it would stop updating after a while). I also think I've found a bug in the text rendering code that might have been causing instability problems. Time will tell whether the fix helps.

The config app is very great.

it is easy to change the settings.

if smooth text is being instable.

So Thanks for that.

But overall it seems much more stable than previews release.

Note the trackbar skinning...

2u9i9zl.png

It was a lot of work, but trackbar support is in. If skinning is off but "highlight controls" is on, the thumb will highlight on mouseover.

I'm testing it now, and if all is well I should be releasing 1.0.1 fairly soon.

Hey Wildbill! :hello:

I'm impressed with the stability of the 1.0.0, :thumbup

Love that configurator!

I was wondering a few things:

1) Do you get a border around the taskbar that is unskinned?

a) Also do you use KDW?

2) Do font substitutions work properly for you?

a) Font Substitution On, and is smoothed: http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/7070/jumbled.png

B) Font Substitution Off, but is not smoothed: http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/8568/nonsmoothed.png

Wow, that's really weird. Font substitution is working fine for me.

What's KDW?

I get an unskinned border on the taskbar, but when I click on the taskbar it skins properly. It has to do with painting the non-client area. I need to get SmoothText to kick a message to Explorer to force a repaint of the non-client area when it starts. The taskbar normally has a border that depends on your window border thickness settings, and this is the non-client area.

Oo

I get a focus border when I click on mine...

KDW is Blackwingcat/Win2000's Known DLLs Wrapper, which is a 2000 kernel extender.

Font substitutions is a bit weird on mine... It could be the extra Asian languages I install on it?

The skinning engine works better in 0.99 than in 1.0.

I use exactly the same skin in 099 and in 100 and it shows up better in 099.

but it is still the same error when skinning is on.

some icons in the taskbar is not showing.

Wats not working good in 1.0 is the startbutton.

its not working good in 099 but better.

also have you plan to add support to use png files instead of bitmaps and TGA.

because then PNG has the great transparent support for startbutton if you want a nice glowing startbutton then it is not possible right now.

only if you make the background of the startbutton exactly as the background in the taskbar.

and that is hard if you don´t have a taskbar with only one color.

buttons and stuff is working good.

it is the taskbar that need more work in the skinning engine.

 Really? Got screenshots?

I also am trying to figure out why my taskbar background will not appear. :}

I do believe TGA and BMP both support alpha channels.
