deweylovem Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 I get the same error message which says it must be imported from inside the registry editor. I can open the editor but I don't know where to put this file.
eyeball Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 start - run -> regedittry file -> import, from within regeditdoes that do it?
deweylovem Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 This popup scares me. I don't know what it means.
eyeball Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 wow!, something is screwed up.dont do that definatley not.the only other thing i can think of trying apart from reinstalling windows is to manually create the entriesdoes anyone else have an idea on this?
deweylovem Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 I re-installed Windows about a 10 days ago to see if it would correct my problem, but it didn't. When I do this it is very time consuming because I have to reload SP2 and all the Windows updates since 2002. Everything else works just fine on my computer, except sharing my files.I really appreciate everyones help! Thanks again! I will keep on trying!
eyeball Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 ok i have another thougt.if you open windows explorer and click tools -> folder options -> file types, is REG in there as a file type and set to open with registry editor?im just trying to think why you couldnt import the reg file we created.
deweylovem Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 I have reg file types listed to be open with reg editor. I think I can import your file, but where it will go and what it will do to other files is unknown to me.
d1ck Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 You're forgetting something: You can only disable simple file sharing in XP Pro, not home. This is one of the "Advantages" of Pro. Google it if you don't believe me.
midi2k6 Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 look like he needs the details simple way, i hope i can help.Open My Computer -> go to the top you see File - Edit - Favorites - Tools - HelpClick on Tools then click Folder Options , now you see at the very top: General - View - File Types - Offline FilesClick on View you see the square box say Advanced Settings:Roll all the way down you will see the check box: Use simple file sharing (Recommended).Ok check this box and click OK.Now try to un-share and re-share again, restart your computer.Check again if you able to share files, if not then tell us what the error messages.
Ponch Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I have a version 2002 of win XP home OS with SP2 and all the latest updates. As stated by d1ck, there is no "disable simple file sharing" option in XP Home. I can confirm, we just lost 2 days .

bizzybody Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 The computers have XP HOME on them. With XP Home you are stuck with Simple File Sharing. If you can live with the restrictions of SFS, here's a guide. http://www.theeldergeek.com/quick_guide_to...ile_sharing.htmIf not, upgrade to XP Pro.
deweylovem Posted November 26, 2007 Author Posted November 26, 2007 Well, I solved my problem the hard way. I formatted my hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Win XP PRO. Now I can share files and everything works fine. I have loaded all the same programs as before, one at a time. I still don't know why file sharing didn't work before. Thanks for all your help!
