One Way File Sharing-NEED HELP!

Featured Replies

I have a home network with 2 pc's cabled to a linksys router Wrt54g. Then the router is cabled to an Arris telephony modem to connect to the internet. Both pc's have win XP with SP2.

Dewey can access Dotty's files, but Dotty can only access Dewey's files when Dewey is in safe mode.

I have tried shutting down processes and services on Dewey that don't run in safe mode but this didn't help.

Dotty can see Dewey in her workgroup, but gets "access denied- see administrator for permission" message.

Hope someone can help. I have run out of ideas.

if it works in safe mode only, i would suggest that a 3rd party firewall or something is to blame :)

I have turned off the firewall, but it didn,t help. I am using only windows firewall and it allows file sharing in the exceptions. I searched for any other firewall files, but none came up. Thanks for trying to help.

Check the "Security" properties of the shared folders. Especially if one is under "Documents and Settings".

do you have simple file sharing disabled on both of these computers?

I don't know how to find "simple file sharing".

from windows explorer (looking at the c:\ drive for example) go to Tools | Folder Options . From the View tab, scroll all the way to the bottom of the list. See if simple file sharing is checked or not, and let us know.

Neither computer has the "simple file sharing" option under the view tab in folder options. I tried a screen shot, to show you, but it didn't work.

It's in the bottom of the list of "Advanced Settings" on the View tab, not just at the bottom of the tab.

I have scrolled to the bottom of "advanced settings", in the "view" tab of "folder options" but it isn't there. I have also checked the "general", and "file Types" tabs.

I have searched my computer, and "Help and support" for "Simple File sharing", but there is no mention of it at all.

I have a version 2002 of win XP home OS with SP2 and all the latest updates.

i tried to upload a photo of my folder options screen, but it was too large.. I tried a screen shot, but it didn't work. Sorry.

I was able to take a screen shot. Here it is.

try using the following in a reg file

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advan ced\Folder\SimpleSharing]
"Type"="checkbox"
"Text"="@shell32.dll,-30518"
"HKeyRoot"=dword:80000002
"RegPath"="System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\LSA"
"ValueName"="ForceGuest"
"CheckedValue"=dword:00000001
"UncheckedValue"=dword:00000000
"HelpID"="shell.hlp#51154"
"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001

run that and see if the option is there after a reboot :)

Create a txt file, copy-paste that text in it, rename with .reg extention, launch with double click.

I created a txt file by copying and pasting into notepad and renamed it "simple file sharing.reg"

I got this error message.
